Filppula's Rights?

Since the Wings will likely not be re-signing him, what can his rights fetch? 2nd rounder?

Doubt it. 4th rounder seems about right.

2nd + was his value at trade deadline imo.

History says 4th rounder for negotiating rights.

2nd not happening.

I'd love the Leafs to give him a chance ...i'd expect he can put up more points than Bozak on the top line.

4th seems to be the going rate for a 35+ defenseman, not a young 2nd line two-way center.

I'd hope for anything at this point. I'd take anything to get him off our hands so a conditional 4th would do it for me. No chance we get a 2nd for him & if we could get a 3rd I'd consider it almost a steal.

What's he asking for? 5m? If we could get him up to 4.5m I wouldn't mind it, but 5m is pushing it.

Filppula may have landed a 2nd at the trade deadline but i seriously doubt that he will get a 2nd now history tells us the best we can do is a 4th for his rights.

Word is that he's looking for north of 5m around the 5.5m for 5 or 6 years.

I could see Filppula thriving in Toronto He wants 5m+ If Toronto does'nt mind paying it.

I can understand the argument that a 2nd rounder in a deep draft might be steep for a week or 2 of exclusive negotiations..but if a 35 year old defenseman nets a 4th, I think a young top 6 center has more value.

i was thinking about that as well if a 35 yr old can fetch a 4th maybe we can get a 2nd off a team like dallas that have multiple 2nd round picks but the longer we wait worst return we will get

Filppula's going to Free Agency, he know's some desperate GM's going to pay 5+ mill for him; why waste a 4th (or 3rd, whatever) for someone who won't sign until the bidding starts?

Please present an instance where UFA rights have garnered a 2nd rounder. If it has not happened before, it is doubtful to happen for Filppula.

Filppula isn't exactly young (he'll be 30 next season, certainly not over the hill but not young) and he's really not a top six center. He's more effective as a top six winger (he was great on Zetterberg's wing two years ago) and was getting passed up for the second line center spot when Datsyuk and Zetterberg played together late this season for Franzen.

Off the top of my head:
Ehrhoff netted a 4th for rights.
Hamhuis' rights were worth Ryan Parent to Philly and then a 3rd to Pittsburgh
Streit obs just got a 4th.

I don't think that anyone wants to give you a reasonably valuable 2nd round pick for a chance at Filpp

Would totally be down for Filppula on the Wild if we don't re-sign Cullen.

Its not 100% confirmed that Fllipulla will be gone.

If they are willing to trade his rights somewhere, Go for it. Goodluck..

The redwings will miss him.

If they are going to trade his rights.

Go for a 2nd round pick (13)
---
And a 7th round pick (13)

What do you think Cullen's value is?

Agreed I would'nt be shocked If Ken Holland did'nt back down and give Filppula a 5 year $25 million contract, I dont see it happening but at the same time i would'nt be shocked if it did.

Certainly less than Filppula's (obviously, especially given his age) but he still plays like a guy who just turned 30. If Fletcher is determined not to re-sign him, he could probably be had for a 5th rounder.

Your GM already gave huge contracts to Parise and Suter, Dont know why he would'nt to Filppula also.

I sense a little ******** in your post.

That being said, Parise and Suter were very rare players that required overpayment to get. Fletcher will be very careful about the contracts he gives out from now on, especially if we can't buyout Heatley because of his injury.
