Schenn has more offensive upside.

If the idea is to get a future #1 center, and improve the offense, it makes more sense to trade for the guy who has more offensive upside.

We already have a 1B type that is an average-at-best skater in Stepan. We need our #1 and #2 to be average skaters?

A Schenn-Stepan one two would be far more dynamic. Schenn is fast, he's tough, he fights for his team, and he has dynamic offensive abilities. His future is in the middle, not on the wing. The kid is a future Mike Richards clone.

Giroux is next to get a big contract. He has another left on his current contract. The $9.5M for Malkin is the same AAV of Richards in the first six years of his SPC. The last three years at $1M each drops it to $6.667M.

Horton has chronic shoulder dislocation. He will have surgery this summer. Buyer beware. Two major concussions in the last two years. His status is an issue for the remaining games. He missed time with an upper body injury during the season. Shoulder? Concussion?

Stop coaching Pat is reporting the Rangers had Sauer evaulated by doctors this week. The Rangers can QO Sauer to retain his rights if they feel might recover from the concussion. His QO is $1.25M. His condition hasn't improved much. http://m.nydailynews.com/1.1372400

Sorry but Schenn > Couturier. And it's not close, IMO.

Schenn is more active. He's more physical. Couturier looks like he's in slow motion.

Speed, smarts, skill, grit, toughness, leadership.

yea I would not go for Horton. I know Clowe is a risk too but he's been on the team now and if he takes a 2 yr deal I would bring him back. If he wants more I likely pass

right now assuming all RFA's back which they should be the depth chart is

Nash, Stepan, Callahan
Zuccarello, Brassard, Kreider
Hagelin, Boyle ( 1 yr left ), Dorsett
Pyatt, Powe, Asham/Haley (all 1 yr left on deals then UFA and likely all gone)

Obviously that needs to be tweaked. I am assuming Ricahrds is bought out and from there they sign 2 UFA Forwards and attempt to dump Pyatt.

cant really rely on Miller, Fast, Lindberg but a kid could surprise in camp. I have higher hopes for Kreider so I put him on the team from the start.

D- McD ,Girardi, Staal, DZ, Moore, Stralman
ugh Bickel has a 1 way deal so he may stick and McIlrath called up in case of inury

G- King, Biron (1 yr left then Talbot)

Will there be a deal or two well likely I just honestly have no idea what Sather is going to do. he may be balzy and do a Tyutin for Zherdev type deal again.

Darren Dreger feels the Flyers will re-sign Streit. He wants 4 years and they want to it at 3 years. $5M. Streit gives them 6 D. Coburn. Grossman. Schenn. Meszaros. Timmonen. Does Streit satisfy their need at D?

Schenn defensively is not that great. Physically he is bigger than Richards. Offensively I think he has a higher ceiling. Defensively? Not close.

And you don't have to sell me on Schenn. I was one of the only people calling for the Rangers to trade Gaborik for Schenn + Simmonds a couple of years ago. I love the way he plays. However, showing the TOI stat and showing how much more Schenn supposedly scores than Couturier is incredibly misleading.

DO NOT WANT.

Watch, the Rangers will sign him and let Clowe walk. Not only will it make no sense because he is another RW, but they won't sign Clowe because of possible injury concerns ad sign the walking wounded in Horton.

Youtube videos?

Couturier is going to be a very good player in the league. Schenn is 2 years older and let's not act as if he is setting the world on fire with his offense. Most of his scoring came from the wing this past year and even with less responsibility he scored at a ~40-45 point pace.

If the Rangers could get either, I would be ecstatic.

no, absolutely not. Only competent and reliable D on that team is Schenn and Grossman. Coburn is a turnover machine, Meszaros can't stay healthy, Timmonen is a year away from retiring, and Streit just isn't good. They still really need D.

No. Mezsaros will be out of there soon. They also have Gustafsson who was promising last year. Bourdon was solid before his concussion.

They have been rumored to be wanting (2) puck movers and another top-6 forward. Streit fills one of those holes.

Seems like a no-brainer. IF the brass thinks Sauer can come back, it would seem that they would extend the QO. If he does come back, GREAT. If he doesn't, he goes on LTIR and does not count against the cap. If he does not get a QO, I think we can conclude that his career is over.

That's what I figure. Only thing it would affect is the summer cap but there's no way we even come close to the summer cap especially if we buyout Richards. Maybe they just don't want to pay the $1.25 million for a guy that may never play? I'd extend a QO though.

Re: YT videos, easier to show what your talking about then to put it in words.

I really wanted that trade as well. Love Simmonds.

I feel a young player can improve defensively gradually over time. That stuff can be taught. But offensive instincts can't really be taught.

They were talking on SiriusXM today about the state of the defense free agent market. Streit is just about the best option. Del Zotto's value is going to be high this summer. We will be able to get ourselves a future #1 center type from a team that needs defense.

If we could get Schenn, Burmistrov, Zibanejad, or Couturier for Del Zotto we would be strong down the middle for years to come, strong on the blue line for years to come. That's a way to build a club.

With the current deals being tossed for stars, I see third and fourth liners no longer making the kind of money they currently do. There will be a larger disparity in the future imo.

If we trade Del Zotto to Detroit, I don't want Tatar. I want Landon Ferraro. Ferraro is another fast, fearless, highly skilled center. NHL ready. Pedigree. Been around Pro hockey his whole life. Leader.

Plays in all situations. Scores short handed goals using his speed.

If they retain his rights, but he won't play would he count against the cap and/or the 50 contract limit?

I'd make the pretty safe assumption that a big reason why the team scores more when he's on the ice is because he plays mainly with top 6 forwards, and you'd expect the team to score more while they are on. Likewise, the extra 5.1% of the time that his shift finishes in the O zone compared to when it started doesn't seem all that incredible when you assume that he'd play about 30 shifts a game so 5% would be about an extra time and a half. Out of curiosity, does icing the puck count as ending the shift in your own zone? If a team iced it a lot then they'd have awesome stats showing that they started in their d-zone and ended in their o-zone, not sure the coach would be too happy though...

Personally, I'd want a better package (including forwards) if we were going to deal Staal/Girardi (or both)
Faulk's time spent with J.Staal is most amongst the Hurricanes forwards, more than E.Staal and Tlusty. Their scoring rate drastically increases while he's on the ice because he controls the flow of the game as shown in his shot differential totals. I do not believe zone starts factor in icing totals, but I will have to look up on that.

The Rangers can retain Sauer's rights by giving him a QO. Sauer doesn't have to sign the QO for the Rangers to retain his rights. IF Sauer signs the $1.25M QO,his SPC counts against the 50 SPC limit and it counts against the cap. The Rangers and Sauer's agent Ben Hankinson could agree Sauer won't sign the QO until the day comes where Sauer can resume his career. Sauer got paid $2.5M for 19 games.
