Prosposal EDM - FLA trade

Smith + Oates + Chimera for Jokinen & 2nd draft

From having so many dman buzzing around and Lowes comments about
a shakeup, I just can't see Lowe giving up on the playoffs. I heard the panthers were talking about giving up on Huselius, but he's doing much
better of late. Smith is our best Dman, but Brewer isn't going anywhere
after turning his season around and playing with confidence. Ulanov
will keep the cease clear and block shots. From watching his play on the roadrunners, he's a man on a mission.

Smyth Jokinen Isbister
Torres York Dvorak
Moreau Reasoner Hemsky
Pisani Horcoff Stoll
pb Laraque
Brewer Semenov
Staios Ulanov
Bergeron Ferguson
Lynch
Would you make this trade?

Ok you probably have to understand something.

Florida is not really in a playoff spot run. Why would they want Oates, who was available for free to them all season? Why would they want that 40 year old? Why would they also want Smith?? No point. The only little attraction is Chimera who might get a 3rd round draft pick back from Florida.

It's like if I tell you:
Holzinger + Berehowsky + Matt Bradley for Mike York and a 3rd?
Would YOU do it?
Of coarse NOT.

So it's a very bad proposal and you will get trashed by Panthers fans.

I don't see Florida dealing Jokinen for a package like that. Oates more or less has zero value. When it's closer to the deadline a contender MIGHT offer up a 2nd for him. Chimera is nice but he is still a 3rd/4th liner and Florida has plenty of them. Smith is good except he's old and makes a lot of money. Dudley is known to be youth obsessed so he won't be trading away his young talent.

No I wouldn't. Sportsnet just said that the reason Ulanov was signed was because of the Oilers depleted blueline. The Oilers need defense and will not be trading a defenseman. In tonight's game against the Devils, Brewer played 29:48 and Staios played 30:43. Last night against the Blackhawks, Brewer played 27:31 and Staios played 28:56. Both Staios and Brewer played more than 60 minutes in the two games combined. MacT is risking injury by playing these 2 dmen so much.

IMO if Edmonton pulls a trade like this, they will be ripping the Panthers off all sorts. With Jokinen, you can get a better defenceman then Smith, that you guys will like more. Isn't Smith injured anyways? ahaha

Smith is +14 on a (so far) poor team. I think you're underestimating him.

I'd make that trade no prob. But why would FLA?

I guess if they can get Smith to an extension it makes some sense, enough to make the del though???

Smith was just named on of the most underrated players in the NHL in the last Hockey News.

Most players outside of Edmonton are apt to underate him.

Dr. kØUkLØs is right florida gets ripped on that package, a package that is better suited to a team in a playoff spot like perhaps New Jersey or Philly

can't argue with that line of reasoning. It was my first proposal. Next time, I guess I stick to watchin the oil drinking beer instead.
