That makes 10 defenseman who should be on an AHL roster. Something has to give.

I expect Blum to be dealt before next year, along with possibly Gill or Bartley.
Blum and 4th for 3rd +

I have to imagine he is AHL bound unless Tallon trades another forward at least.

Depending on the +, I'd rather keep him for that.

Butler was waived two to three times. Likely a cap hit trade for Florida. I sincerely doubt Butler makes that roster opening day. Not to say that Butler doesn't do some things well.

Butler looked decent in Nashville, just not consistently-- though that may be in part because Trotz didn't give him a lot of icetime.

Darn, I liked Brennan while he was here.

Thought he could of been a good 3rd pairing/PP guy.

If that was the case, then Tallon would be looking to trade Kuba or Weaver at the very least to open up a spot in the regular lineup. I believe the Panthers already had Campbell, Kulikov, Gudbranson, Kuba & Weaver penciled in for next yr's defense with Jovo as the possible last guy (depending on injury). Brennan & Robak were basically going to be fighting for the 7th d-man spot and the possible fill-in in case of Jovo not being able to return from his hip injury. If it was done for Jones, then Tallon would be trading Kuba IMO for anything anyone would take.

The Cats can make room by buying out Kuba and/or Jovo or placing Jovo on LTIR (if he is not healthy)

I've seen it speculated that the belief is the Panthers don't have enough money/aren't willing to spend money on a buy-out.

So basically, this is the last deal in a five way trade?

To New Jersey: Andrei Loktionov
To Los Angeles: Keaton Ellerby
To Florida: Bobby Butler
To Nashville: TJ Brennan
To Buffalo: New Jersey's 5th 2013

we would be much happier with barkov. his two way game and being a center make him a very likely pick at 4 if he is available, assuming mackinnon is gone. we won't complain too much with drouin, the most talented offensive guy in the draft imo.

Same here. Really puzzled by this trade.

Unless there's a trade or injury, he won't see anything other than the pressbox.

Fleishmann/?/Versteeg
Huberdeau/Bjugstad/Mueller
Bergenheim/Goc/Kopecky
Upshall/Matthias/Skille
Parros
Shore
Howden

He wouldn't see time over any of those, even Parros (Dineen loves to have a fighter in the line-up)

Robak struggled this year, but Brennan was far from defensively solid. He's basically a better version of MAB.

IMO Tallon is looking to dump Upshall (3.5 per 2 years) for shorter term with around the same money.

Kuba if traded, would be a similar of Foster/Sutton trade (similar money/term, change of scenery) from a few years ago, except a struggling forward would be coming back more than likely.

Both of these two need to be qualified, no? They are both RFAs.

If so I think Brennan is easily but maybe Butler isn't even given a QO? Just don't see how he makes the Panthers.

Tallon was Team USA advisor at WC. Bobby was one of USA best players in the tournament. Not surprised to see him go after Bobby. Sad to see Brennan go but most likely means Kuba or Jovo wont be bought out ;( and Robak can't be sent to AHL without waivers

I almost hope we end up being "forced" to take Drouin. We desperately need a guy who will eventually score 30. I know we need a center but more than anything we need a goal scorer.

IMO, Drouin has game changing abilties. Smart player and I beleive will make any team that picks him up.

Sounds like Florida fans are saying TJ actually has a chance of being a dman in the league. That's good to read. I liked Butler ok myself. He has a good shot but in Trotz's system, you need a lot more than that to earn ice time.

I'd definitely be interested in dealing for Blum or Ellis. Blum for Read has been discussed (okay, mostly by me ) on the Flyers board. Reasonable?
