VAN signs UFA SEL G Joacim Eriksson ('08 PHI draft pick)

http://norran.se/2013/06/skellefteaa...med-nhl-klubb/

It is now clear that Skellefteć AIK's golden goalie joins brothers Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks. Joacim Eriksson has signed a contract with the Canadian NHL club. All that remains now is that the NHL must approve the transfer.
- Joacim has decided to Vancouver and we agree on a contract, says Joacim Eriksson's agent Joakim Persson.
- Nothing is still evident, the agreement must be approved by the NHL. I can only confirm that we agree on the contract.

The agreement relates to a two-year contract between Vancouver and Joacim Eriksson. But some lending to Skellefteć AIK in the coming season is not up to date.

On Friday night was Joacim Eriksson noted that Vancouver players on the NHL's official website nhl.com. This therefore although the contract with Vancouver is not quite clear.

His last couple of season haven't looked that bad. When I saw this thread I was hoping it was a good rookie forward but oh well it's nice to have a goalie for backup if the contract goes through.

Luongo(Probably be traded)
Schneider
Lack
Cannata/Eriksson

No idea who this is. Anyone with more info tell me a quick scouting report?

Where is he expected to play next year?

He's a solid goalie prospect, will probably be the best we have after Lack

More depth the better. If he pans out, great find, if he doesn't, no loss.

A 6'2/200lbs athletic goalie. Helped his team win the SEL championship this season.

2012-13
Skellefteć: 30GP, 1.67 GAA, .931
Playoffs: 10GP, 1.06 GAA, .952

Solid stats, maybe another Fasth?

Obviously Gillis make sure we sign him so Gillis can make his "Bold" move and trade both Lu and Schneider...

Man I can already see the perfect storm here and I mean storm.

Lou and Cory are both injured and Eriksson grabs the starting goalie position, much like Fasth did with the Ducks last year.

Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink.

bring on thread # 300 "what to do with the goalie situation"

Ericsson must be an idiot for picking the Canucks. He is number 4 here... And even without Luongo he is still in the AHL. Don't know what he is thinking. Could surely have found a diffrent NHL-team where he would be higher up in the depth chart.

His stats for the last couple of seasons in the SEL are pretty damn good. Interested to see what he can bring come training camp - if (hopefully) Luongo has been moved, seems like he and Lack will be competing for the backup spot, with the loser handling starting duties in Utica.

Either way - looks like a good guy to gamble on.

At this rate, we might have more NHL capable goalies than forwards...

We're taking the 'build from the net out' to another level.

Gross. A southpaw goalie.

I kid, even though it honestly does kinda weird me out. Doesn't hurt to shore up our prospect system with another goaltender at this point. To me, this would hint at what was already assumed by many, the likelihood of Lack being the NHL backup next year.

But from that awkward Swedish translation, it sounds like there may be some sort of loan agreement where he stays in Sweden for some portion of the deal.

He's pretty good. I remember the outrage on Flyers board when they found out that they let him walk for nothing, and even rumors of basically management screwing up the deadline for signing (due to new SEL transfer rules), sent down Ericsson, tried to get Ericsson to drive back to sign the contract, and having time run out on them.

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...d.php?t=920815

Holmgren's take on it was that 'he wasn't good enough at that point', but in an organization as thin in goal as that one, I am not sure I buy it...

It'd probably be good to compare him to Svedberg who had his first year in NA with Providence just recently

Think he was a hot commodity back in the 2011-2012 season. They were saying that his game suddenly improved.

There's threads in the Prospects section that gives a more detailed account of his style and play

His stats the last couple years look great. Why didn't Philadelphia sign him?

Rated 7.5 C.

You know, say what you will about Gillis' draft and trade records. The man knows how to steal in FA.

Good depth signing by Gillis. But damn this kid is dumb for signing with the Canucks. Unless he wants to wait another 5-8 years until Schneider is passed his prime.

Though I guess if he does well in the AHL, we can use him as a potential trading chip.

Dumb ? Really ?

You get an offer to sign to an NHL team, you sign to an NHL team.

Who knows how many offers he had on the table or how the offer was spun. Maybe he sees Vancouver as a city that develops their goalies well ?

He's signed by the Canucks and we're not, so I say he's smarter than most.

Lack won't be around long term if he is any good since Schneider is too young for another Luongo situation. Also doesn't hurt up have a bigger back up plan in case Schneider walks in 2 years.
