Flames offer all three first rounders to Avalanche

For the 1st overall pick, as per Elliotte Friedman on HNIC. That would be picks 6, 22 and 28 for #1.

He says the Avs turned it down. Glad they did as I think Avs brass would want more NHL talent as part of any trade package.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't have done it either. Replace the lower 2 draft picks with some NHL ready talent, and it would be worth considering.

Not nearly as dumb as NYI trying to trade all of their draft picks to move up 2 spots. They should have just drafted Trouba :p

Or Rielly. Or Lindholm.

Still makes me laugh. That organization can be pretty funny at times.

You do realize that trading down was on condition Yakupov was available at #2

Glad we did not accept. Far far to much uncertainty after the first few picks. We need quality, not quanity.

Really? Where'd you hear that? I could have sworn the Islanders were really high on Murray and the deal didn't happen because Columbus wanted him.

I think I would want my team to take that deal in this draft, at the 6th you could land Horvat and have 2 more 1st in this deep of a draft.... It'd be different if this draft wasn't so deep but even at the 22 and 28 theirs good players still on the table.

I can see why Avs would turn it down, maybe they are really high on Mackinnon/ Jones.

Maybe something like 6th + 22nd + Barstchi would get them thinking

I think it would take all three picks and either Giordano and/or Brodie for the 1st overall from Colorado or all three picks and Backland and/or Baertschi to Florida for the 2nd overall. Not really worth it for Calgary. Just my thoughts.

At 1 their would be great players available

Not sure where I heard it but that was the story I heard

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-pu...6585--nhl.html

Quote:
The version I heard had one contingency: That Nail Yakupov was available at No. 2, if the Edmonton Oilers decided to take defenseman Ryan Murray at No. 1. That the Islanders would trade all their picks for Yakupov, who eventually went No. 1 to the Oilers.
Of coarse that story isn't as funny. All I know is Freedman reported both stories(Islanders and Calgary). Maybe he should quit his job at the CBC and get one at the National Enquirer.

The funny thing is I think that's a bad deal for where the Flames are at! They have a chance to grab 3 solid young prospects in a deep draft for their weak pool.

I would do it from a Flames perspective. There was a Thread a while ago about trading 3 picks for the First overall. Using roughly where the Flames would pick. Basically every season the first overall was substantially better than the 3 combined.

Calgary should just go ahead and pick Lindholm, Domi, and Mantha and call it a day
No use putting all of your eggs in one basket

Well, IMO both teams shouldn't be doing this deal. I know it would be huge for Calgary to grab MacKinnon but in a deep draft with a pretty weak prospect pool, having three picks is bigger. Calgary is likely going to have another top 5 pick, maybe top 3 next year. Take three solid prospects from this draft and get the top end player next year.

As for Colorado, this is an obvious no for them. Seth Jones is perfect for Colorado, it's going to take a deal that brings back more quality.

It's a solid offer IMO, unfortunately for you guys the last thing FLA needs is more picks. That said, with all the talent down the middle in this draft you guys should just take Lindholm @ 6, then trade 22 and 28 to move up to 12 (I legitimately think PHX would consider) and nab whomever is left from Horvat/Lazar. Might cost a bit more, but I think a cash strapped team could always use an extra 1st.

As someone who likes the Flames I would have done this. Can see why the Avs turned it down though

I doubt they'll all be on the board at all three picks they might have a chance with 2 of them, which will be unlikely but not all 3 of them

Calgary would need to upgrade the 6th to the 5th for the Avs to consider it (Drouin/Barkov/Nichushkin).

I'd do the 1st for 5th, Cammalleri (1 year left before UFA) and Giordano ... maybe add a B prospect from the Avs.

Rumour on hockeybuzz is that Buffalo wants the first badly and they are looking to get another 1 round pick to get the 1rst for the 8th, 16 th and that other pick

Domi won't be around by time 22 comes up. Mantha might be selected before then as well(although a possibility)

thoughts are calgary is a team with no plan or direction.. scary their gm still has a job..

isnt this considered to be one of the deepest drafts all time? why would trade all those first rounders for 1pick.. who cares if its first overall.. 3 picks are better then one and with a deep draft.. you should have good scouts and PD to get multiple pieces to build a team!

especially when they offer sheeted ROR and didnt even know he couldve been lost via waivers...

I feel for you Calgary fans, as a ranger fan with slats a the helm early on with the rangers he was brutal.. glad we made some changes with PD and bringing in Gorton as agm otherwise we'd continue to be even more of a laughing stock of the league with some of the deals we have made..
