What is there to talk about with Roy? I don't think he ever wanted to be a Vancouver Canuck personally.

We are not talking about trading Edler for Shatty straight up. We are talking about the value the canucks need at D man.

Shattenkirk is not leaving the Blues, Edler is not being traded by the canucks. Simple as that.

As far as my OP, I still think it offers tremendous value for both teams, but the lack of center in return does make me rethink it.

It's highly unlikely, like most proposals that are in this forum. No different.

I don't think the Blues would do it, they'd like to see how Shattenkirk and Rattie progress over trading for Edler. But in Edler you get a defender who's more seasoned, arguably better all-around, and locked up so maybe the Blues consider that factor. Highly doubt it's worth Rattie too though.

Canucks just locked up Edler, pretty bad move to sign and then trade. I wasn't saying this proposal was good for either side personally myself; just correcting the poster's idea of Edler in comparison to Shattenkirk in a proposed deal, no matter how realistically unlikely.

As opposed to all of the other proposals made by people not employed by the actual teams? Lighten up Francis.

What would it take for the blues to just get the 24th pick? They hopped into the 2010 draft to nab Tarasenko and this looks deep.

Would Rattie do? Or schmaltz and a 5th?

Why would we trade Rattie who's developed tremendously over 2 years for a 1st? I doubt the player picked at 24 will be as good as Rattie, and I'm not banking on potential even if it's a so called deep draft.

We'd need some type of NHL ready prospect about to step into the line up on a low ELC. A scoring winger or a good centre who can handle playing 3rd line minutes.

This thread is silly. It's fun to speculate but no way a deal is made between these 2 teams other than the sale of Peoria.

This goes for 99.99% of all threads in the column.

We're having fun talking hockey. Let it be.

Actually the more well thought out proposals have a slight chance of happening instead of outrageous ones like this. At least those have some thought to them, this thread is just a pissing contest.

This deal sucks for the Canucks! No way in hell, this makes us worse, no elite prospect coming back nor a top pick nothing that really helps us out now and leaving a massive hole for a 2nd line center, why would Vancouver even think of doing this? Much better moves could be made if Kesler was on the market, which I doubt he is given his importance to the team.

Kesler for Shattenkirk plus your 1st I would do, given his contract and our no need to make this move and Blues in need to bring in a top 6 center, we could flip Edler for a Kesler replacement.

No as a Canucks fan.

Name someone we could get to replace Kesler.

If Edler was put on the market we could find a solid young top 6 center, but I'm not for trading Kesler I was just saying given this thread is about moving him and this return in the op is crap return fr the Canucks, if someone offered him a similar package for Backes he'd laugh at it.

My first proposal, so let me know if it's terrible or not. I know the canucks and their fans value Kesler high so I tried to accommodate. I also really think the blues need to hop into this years 1st round.

i see it as Schmaltz and the 5th for #24 and Rattie and Perron for Kesler.
Perron for Kesler is a fair one for one, solely based on player values.
Ty Rattie for #24 is not bad pretty fair.
Schmaltz + 5th Rounder for nothing.
I think Vancouver would have to add ...

How do you figure?

I'd love Shatty but not at the expense of Edler without a significant addition, and as stated before Blues have no reason to do it. May as well roll the dice and see if Shatty becomes a similar player to Edler (all signs point to yes).

Most people try to at the very least improve their team, this Edler for Shattenkirk+Rattie proposal does nothing for either team.

Lets look at the proposal...
  • Two comparable D...is there a point in moving them? Edler has a NTC...would he be willing to waive it? Is the upgrade worth it to the Blues at the expense of Rattie? Highly doubtful. Is it worth VAN making the slight downgrade at D, while not addressing their current forward needs? I wouldn't think so.
  • One cost controlled asset (Rattie) the Blues could very well use down the road. AND one that can score...a problem that the Blues have for the foreseeable future.

What about any of that makes any sense?

Perron doesn't = Kesler to say so is ridiculous. Perron doesn't bring that elite level defensive Selke type defensive play and the fact Kesler is a center brings his value way up more than a winger, there's no chance a GM would trade Kesler for Perron.

They would, but only if they were the one trading Perron.

I agree however signing Shatter and Pietrangelo is gonna lock up alot of cap space. Not leaving much to improve the scoring upfront.
