I was holding out just a little bit of hope that there would be a happy end to this. Hearing the confirmation that it was indeed him is very sobering. Kid had so much promise and his whole life ahead of him, so sad.
RIP Kristians.

I don't know if it's too soon but does this scenario apply to the Oilers ? http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=413511

I think that's the compensation for an unsigned 1st rounder. Doesn't apply here.

Rip young man. Heartbreaking

I think Pelss's death may have come too long after he was drafted for that type of scenario to unfold.

first you do not get comp for a 7th round pick and even if there was, he had already signed a contract with the oilers, so even if he was a first round pick there would be no comp

Sorry for the bump, however I feel like this is important to share. Both Lowe and Nelson made it to the funeral: http://oilers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?...id=DL|EDM|home

Quote:
Oil Kings officials wanted to present Kristians with his WHL championship ring face to face when he was to arrive in the city in just a couple of weeks for the Edmonton Oilers Development Camp. Instead, Kevin Lowe concluded his cross-continental journey to Preili, Latvia, today by presenting the ring to Kristians' parents, Einars and Inta, and his three sisters, Lauma, Lasma and Lev.

We give Lowe a lot of crap, but that's pretty classy of him

Thanks a lot for that, very classy of Lowe and Nelson to make that trip and to make sure that his parents got his ring.
