Would not touch Lecavalier's contract at all. Heck, I wouldn't even trade Rielly for the 3rd overall...As Burke said, we had Rielly rated 1st overall for a reason...

I hate this as a Leafs fan. Lecavalier? No way am I dealing Reilly and Bozak's rights for an older player who has never lived up to his hype. Also the third overall pick is great, but the leafs are likely getting a player who will spend a year outside the NHL then another year or two gaining experience before they are a legit top player. The leafs do not need to add old guys or draft picks at this point. If we are going to trade young guys, make sure you get guys back that are mid 20's. if we are going to add experience, make sure it is role payers and we are not giving up young prospects for older guys who may or may not help out for a year or two.

big No from the Leafs. Rielly showed great development this year... I fail to see how this trade would improve the Leafs.

that's just wrong... Lecavalier lived up to the hype and exceeded it. He was a monster up until he started to have reoccurring injuries.

Agreed. Some fans just get heated and say dumb things. Although his career is nearing the end.

Wow, can't believe neither team wants to do this trade. These Vinny buyout trade offers usually go so well.

Exceeded it? When? The 108 point season? He broke 80 points twice in his career. For a number one overall pick, that's hardly living up to expectations. Richards is the most impressive player from the 98 draft. His Conn Smythe from 2004 while playing on the same team as Lecavalier kind of backs up that point. He was hardly the next 66. Now were those comparisons absurd from day one? Yes. However, it was never a stretch to say he and Thorton were comparable players and its not even debatable which one of them has had the better individual career. Each had their best ever season the same season and Torton still finished ahead of him. Lecavalier was very good for a short period, but to say he exceed expectations? I can't see that at all.

No way do I want Lecavalier eating up a bunch of the Leafs' salary cap AND for a long time (7 years!)

No way leafs would trade Rielly. Like I said, Rielly will become the best defenseman in the 2012 draft

No point in making a trade for the third overall pick. Drouin is a winger, which the leafs have plenty of. We need a center, you don't pick one with the third overal unless some how Mack or bark fall to you. If the leafs want to give up assets for a top pick this year it will be for the 5th, 6th, or 7th and draft one of the centres available there.

To : Buffalo
Vinny's contract buyout of 26 Million ( free to sign back with TB at a much cheaper rate)
3rd overall

To : Tampa

Islanders 15th overall (DiPeitro buyout)

Luke Adam (prospect)

St. Louis 2nd (from the Leopold trade)

Horrible. Despite Vinny's contract, he still has positive value to our team. You'd have to add to any trade in order to get him, not subtract.

Lets be real about this, Lecavalier is still a good player. However, his trade value is getting to the point where his trade value is essentially a late pick.

His contract aside, he cannot stay healthy for a full season, and most teams (not Toronto obviously) would hate to have to pay his contract while he is sitting on IR.

Of course, Vinny has value to Tampa. He would be an excellent 2C on any NHL team (and a 1C on teams like Toronto) and he puts up points (lets say 65 prorated).

End game here is that a team will realistically only take him if Tampa eats some of the salary, or if Vinny is treated as having negative value and that team gets another asset. Tampa would hate to do this, so he probably doesnt get traded.

Prepare to be freaked on by other Leafs fans for daring to include Reilly in a package. I think this deal would be pretty solid for Toronto overall, but see no reason why the Bolts would make the deal. The 3rd pick is likely too valuable for them, and there is no guarantee they can re-sign Bozak. If Bozak walked, you're talking about trading Drouin and Lecavalier for Reilly and a 2nd. Not enough to get it done (probably even with Bozak signing).

So we give up rielly and eat vinnys contract ? I think rielly straight for 3rd so we can get Barkov would be fair but this is a huge no for Toronto
