Toronto - Carolina

To Toronto - Jeff Skinner

To Carolina - Jake Gardiner

These are the starting pieces. Does anyone have to add? And what is it?

Discuss.

As good as Gardiner is and will be, right now, Skinner is worth more. Gardiner and a 3rd for Skinner?

As a Toronto fan, yes please. I like Gardiner, but Skinner is flat out awesome.

Skinner's skills are not in question... but his concussion history and fat contract hurt his value.

Having said that, why are the Leafs (trying to take steps to get past 1st round of the playoffs) giving up a great young defenseman who looked very solid (team choke not withstanding) against the dangerous Bruins in the playoffs?

Gards needs to start being viewed as a crucial building block, instead of a simple prospect that needs to be peddled to fill roster holes.

never been impressed with players who peak as a rookie and then never live up to the hype.

...though same can be said about either player right now.

Gardiner also has a concussion history...

Right now, Skinner is younger and more established, so I don't see why the Canes do this.

Most I add is the 1st. Not sure if I do it either, but it's tempting.

Gards has had a single concussion. Skinner has had multiple concussions (love his style, but he keeps going into open ice with the puck and people keep catching him looking the wrong way).

If you're the Canes. You do this because you get a solid, young top 4 dman today with top pairing potential at a MUCH friendlier cap hit... that's it, that's all.

I'd be down to include a 2nd rounder along with Gardiner for Jeff Skinner who could be a great piece added to our top 6.

Randy Carlyle will ensure he improves his all around game but he'll be great for our PP.

Liles (3 years x 3.875)

for

Ruutu (3 years x 4.75 per)

Canes get an upgrade at D and save a million in cap space.

Toronto gets an abrasive winger who has the versatility to play center if needed who can fit on the 2nd line.

Skinner would be redudant in Toronto and cost to much for the role he'd be slated for.

We already have a top PP and there is only so much PP time to go around so having Skinner take PP time away from Kessel or Lupul doesn't help us win more.

The word redundant and the name Skinner do not belong in the same sentence, IMO.

He's young and has been gifted with a scoring touch that most players in the NHL are not.

Skinner is worth more.

Gardiner is very good and us Leaf fans expect him to be unreal. So it's pretty hard to say that we want to move him, but Skinner is a valuable piece.

Leafs would have to add, but not sure I would really want to add to Gards, as it would be rough to see him go, not to mention another solid piece too.

It does when your top wingers are Kessel, Lupul & JVR. The Leafs need help at centre and defence; they won't be looking to add to the wings.

I would love him in Toronto if he can play center, but I think he's being used as a LW in Carolina. Are top 6 left wing spots are locked up with Lupul and JVR, kessel has the first line RW spot. Only available wing postion is the second RW spot. Added plus because he's from Toronto.

I would NEVER move an emerging player like gardiner for a guy with concussion issues. It just isn't a calculated risk i'd be willing to take.

Why are all Toronto fans so quick to move Gardiner? Christ, we trade away all our assets. Gardiner shouldn't be going ANYWHERE.

Sure Skinner is a great player, but he is a LW, Not a C. If he could be moved to a Centre i wouldn't make the deal, seeing as our defence isn't anything near great.

not sure if skinner is the player the leafs should be moving gardiner for. we need someone who plays center at the nhl level and ideally someone who is a little bigger.

i would think skinner would be valued higher then gardiner but it doesnt make sense to trade from an area of weakness (defense) to fill an area of depth (wing)

The ++ would have to be pretty big. As it stands, that isn't a very good proposal.

Toronto would definitely need to add because Skinner is more valuable on the open market than just Jake Gardiner at the moment but I wouldn't do it to begin with.
