Who needs Subban? Didn't you know the Flyers added Mark Streit and Steve Mason to their back-end for next year? That team is set.

Damn it's true... I totally forgot about that. They're going to be a hell of a team next year!

I really think MB should look into trading Subban for Nick Cousins, they're also adding a 2nd round pick. Seems like a steal to me!

John Boruk just sounds like an ignorant wannabe sports analyst. I wonder who his favourite team is and wondering if there isn't any hint of anti-homerism (when the guy who wasn't on your favourite team won a trophy instead of the guy on your team).

We need a top 4 very good defensive player. Gorges, if he plays better next year, can be that guy. In our bottom 6, we need a crease clearing defensive DMAN (Tinords) and someone else to round out the bottom 6 (Emelin/Diaz/Bouillion)

My brother has often said and hoped that Lars can become a poor man's Henrik Sedin (which I don't think is a bad thing to hope for). A guy who will be a #2 two-way player, put up at least 50 points and play 1st PK, 2nd PP.

Listen people, instead of having PK for 5 years at minimum 5.5 million/year plus guaranteed, we'll have PK for 2 years at 2.875/year and another 8 years at 6.5-7.5/year.

That's the difference. Knowing for a fact that he is worth a max contract versus giving him a few less years and letting him have his 5.5 million/year when he hasn't REALLY proved that he deserves that much. Now that he has proved that he deserves all that AND more, I have no issue with MB finally giving him a max contract.

Don't you mean quick and painful. I'd rather have Chara becoming immediately worse like right now then slowly and progressively worse over the last years of his career. Just a thought.

Agreed. The 2007 draft was by far one of our best drafts in years.

Everyone dives in the NHL, some do it more than others, but everyone does it to get calls, etc.

Haters gonna hate.

Trust me. U guys here got it easy. Just to piss of all the haters on the main thread, I did this.

Sorry if that bothers you. You have multiple options: 1) skip through my posts, 2) add me to your ignore list 3) Just read the rare long ones I give.

It's OK man, Subban is part of a minorty too!

Cool to see a Bruins fan being neutral about the talent of a player. We have yet to find a Sens fan that likes Subban!

Congratulations, PK!

He pulsl some athletic moves on the ice that are just not typically seen in hockey.

Pretty sure he will be a perennial contender for the next decade.

That will chill out the haters over time...

a bigger man wouldn't need to do this... guess that makes me small:

going back to his first playoff stint with us, I watched him play and thought, "this kid is going to be really, really good".

a year later, during the bruins series, where he was the best Dman in the playoffs in the first round, I was convinced that he would one day win the norris... and could hardly find anyone, here or elsewhere, who shared that conviction.

did not think it would happen so fast... but

I TOLD YOU SO

feels good to be right sometimes!

So I can see them using it as a tool not only to have him "earn his money" down the road but also as a tool to keep the room even, showing management has their backs and treats everyone the same. I think that can help in the long run.

Granted, it will end up costing the team more (6-7M instead of 5M....depending on the kind of discount PK is willing to allow), but if Subban keeps this up, it's a happy problem to have isn't it.
Funnily enough, they say PK is immature, yet the more veteran guys get their ego bruise because the younger kid didn't have to go through a bridge deal. If that were true then PK isn't the one with maturity issues.

The problem with ''treating everyone the same'' is that NOT EVERYONE IS THE SAME.
Should we give everybody the same amount of ice time? Salary? Responsibilities?

PK Subban had been our #1 Dman for almost two years, effectively shutting down top opponents, playing in key situations, was already part of the best young Dman in the NHL, already an All-Star appearance, and if you followed his progression, you knew he was only going to be better the following year. So no, MaxPac (and even Price) and him were not at all on the same level when each came out of their ELC. It's foolish to make everybody think they're on the same level because the reality isn't that.

Sure, I'd like to believe it wasn't about question marks. Sadly I'm not convinced by it.

We were definitely in the minority, but I remember you voicing a similar opinion as mine regarding PK very early on.

I've been totally on the money about quite a few things (yes, even Subban) but it's really no fun showing off to fellow Habs fans about a player developing well. End of the day we all want the same thing (Stanley Cups) one way or another, but mostly by supporting our players.

What's more fun is being right about highly controversial topics: I called Koivu's last game / Koivu leaving and got ignore-listed by a bunch of people who were calling me a troll, in hindsight it kinda sucked to be right (especially for Gomez) but at the moment I was convinced that Koivu and the rest of the leadership group had to go. And did they ever.

All I know, is that I want this guy to be a life long member of the organization.

To the other 29 teams: He's ours, and you can't have him.

Now that they cant hate pile on Subban based on any real measure. They now really "hope" that he gets paid what he's "worth", they cant troll him anymore so its back to just hating the habs and hoping for the worst case scenarios where no one comes to mtl unless its overpaid leaving us in cap peril.

People like to say that Mtl has to overpay in order to lure in free agents, but the reality is every team has to do that. You don't need to do much research either, Washington dished out 124M to Ovechkin in order to make sure he stays there forever, Nashville 110M for Weber, Pitts 104M for Crosby-76M for Malkin, we're talking about guys that re-signed on their respective teams here. Then we can look at free agents, Jersey signed Kovalchuk to 100M, Minny 98M to both Suter and Parise. Heck, Mark Streit just signed to 5.25 for the next 4 years as a 35+ contract.

Teams throughout the NHL overpay for free agents. The notion that we have to overpay more is BS.

Yes. Amen to that.

But let's give credit where it's due. Subban has improved every year
since he was drafted. And sometime by a huge degree.

That's why it's crucial that MB gets him signed, before he becomes the
best player in the league.

Technically speaking, he was the best player in the league this year, on defense.
MB needed to sign him long term last year. He didn't. Now there's no use in rushing to sign him. The only way his value rises is if he wins the trophy back to back, which I doubt will happen. So really, might be better to not rush it just in case.

Subban can win the Norris again next year. He has so much potential and an incredible determination to get better each year.
