He played center in Kitchener, we converted him to LW but he still plays center occasionally.

Canes fans, likely as a collective just say no thanks and move on.

Exactly my thoughts as well.

If I trade Gardiner for anything it's for a potential top 6 centre. Skinner is a cool player and Toronto kid but I think I'd rather hold onto our stud D man for more scoring. Our offense is 6th in the league FFS.

However if Couturier is in the conversation, then Gardiner becomes expendable possibly.

Keep Gardiner, don't need an injury prone weakling

Jake Gardiner missed 38 NHL games from his concussion that he suffered. Skinner, who has had two, has missed a combined 24 games the last two seasons.

So who's really the riskier player? Who's to say one more hard hit won't send Gardiner right back to the AHL? He's already proven to take awhile to recover from a concussion, something that hasn't really been a problem for Skinner.

I like how Kadri no longer comes up in any trade threads, as he surprised the entire fanbase, and actually amounted to something for half a year.

Most I would offer from the Leafs is Gardiner straight up. I know the leafs win that trade but the reason I wouldn't want to add more is because Skinner is simply not what the leafs need right now.

No need to spend 5+ million on a one-way winger. Bad cap management.

Skinner can play Center too (his natural position), although some feel his future in the NHL lies as a winger because like Kessel he has great skating and a good shot.

Oh and I also believe he can play 2RW as well.

Value is there but way more risk on our end. We also need back-end help more than any top 6 help- and this just makes us weaker. Adding Skinner would be a lot more redundant than having a healthy Gardiner over the course of the regular season.

Top six needs to get bigger, not smaller.

Value wise, Toronto needs to add, though.

Uhm, no. Gardiner missed 38 games because of Carlyle. He was cleared to play well before that point, but Carlyle thought otherwise due to his defensive play.

This. Nothing really interests me from Toronto to move Skinner.

Having said that, why are the Leafs (trying to take steps to get past 1st round of the playoffs) giving up a great young defenseman who looked very solid (team choke not withstanding) against the dangerous Bruins in the playoffs?

Gards needs to start being viewed as a crucial building block, instead of a simple prospect that needs to be peddled to fill roster holes.
Toronto fans hate defensemen.

Our goal is to acquire nothing but highly skilled forwards.....18of them to be precise. And then we will just score and score and score....it will be glorious.......just like NHL 13.

Oops, almost forgot

Id do this only if he can play center and play it good.

Seriously our wing depth is way too deep to be trading from a position of weakness. Especially left wing.

Which one of Lupul, Skinner and JVR would be playing the third line

What's to discuss? Neither team would be stupid enough to do this.

Not sure about Carolina, but I would consider this if the Leafs were able to draft Barkov. Not a bad future top 6:

Lupul - Barkov - Kessel
Skinner - Kadri - Kulemin

I rather have the Leafs keep Gardiner because I don't think he is far away from being considered an elite level Defensman.

why would we move JVR? we aren't looking for a full rebuild.

this proposal makes zero sense to me. none whatsoever.

Skinner is an offensive upgrade over JVR. Sure we lose size in the trade, but again, you only pull the trigger if Barkov is there. This could be the only opportunity for a long time where the Leafs would have a chance to draft their franchise centre. It's a risky move, but one I would take it if I was in Nonis' shoes.
