Ouch. Don't like that AAV at all.

Streit could be good though. The cap will probably go up to 70 million next season. I'm trying to find positives.

hopefully the cap goes up about 16 million over the next 3 years... this deal is typical holmgren... he better have a plan up his sleeve come draft day

Eh, not the worst contract in the world, but not the best. I am not sure what everyone expected. He turned down 4.75 over three years with the Isles, right? What did you think he was going to sign for?

That 4th year literally did nothing. I would have left three years on the table at that price and told him take it or leave it.

The cap will likely be around $65m in 2014/15. If the Coyotes are moved, then that will help push it a bit higher.

Pretty much what everyone had to expect. I was hoping that since he got 4 years he'd bring his demands down to $4.5M per. This is 2 years to many at that hit.

Well, I'd rather have Streit on 4x5.25 than giving up Couturier+ for Yandle for 5.3 (which would go up to 7.5 easily in a year or two)...

They have Pronger's LTIR.

Move Meszaros
Buyout Bryz and Briere.
Upgrade team through draft and trade from here on out.

It's a bad contract, but I think this is Holmgren's desperate attempt to not get shutout again this season.

This is just like the JVR for Luke Schenn move last year. Pure desperation after missing out on the rights of Yandle, Suter or Weber at the draft.

Apparently people were hoping for a miracle of 3-4m per.

The sad thing for you is I don't think this move is the end of Couturier trade speculation.

I could see Holmgren moving for a #1 defenseman using Couturier+ after moving Meszaros.

Before this contract is up it's very likely we'll wish we had kept Couturier, stood pat on D, and tried developing our own guys to fill the holes...instead of signing Streit or having had traded for Yandle.

I was hoping for 4.5 or lower but figured 5 mil was likely. Quarter of a mil more isn't a big deal all things considered (buyout of Briere and Bryz, Kimmo retiring before G, Schenn, Read and Couts need extensions, ltiring Pronger and moving Mez).

i really don't understand why everyone is so angry about this deal. is it a little high? yeah, it is, but it's really not that bad. the free agent market is extremely thin this summer, even with the potential buyout candidates. they felt like they needed to add a veteran puck mover and they did that.

this is also a guy who has 241 points in his last 367 games played (.66 ppg) and was one of the lone bright spots for the isles in their 6 playoff games (5 points)

I think your math is a little off.

There it is. Too long, too much, too predictable.
