Wrong. He's actually quite the opposite. You're probably the same type that thinks Scott Hartnell is injury prone because he broke his foot last year.

In all fairness , Prongs took a huge pay cut to sign here. Cap hit was sweetened because of length.

It means there are fewer options if Streit doesn't work out in Philly. He's a candidate to move to a team flirting with the cap floor, but most of the teams in that danger are likely to be teams he isn't willing to play for.

It's a tad higher than I thought, I was expecting 5. I don't mind it. I think he will be a big help next season. This team will contend, I am pretty sure of it.

Did he get a NTC? I didn't see one mentioned. I hope not.

Homer has chance to redeem himself in my eyes with a Giroux deal under $8M.

Bad contract, bad years BUT Streit is easily better in every facet of the game still.

In fairness Pronger's contract really was a five year 6.68 cap hit with two phantom years tacked on at the end. That would have been 11.2% of the cap.

He's been out of the game atrophying for so long, I'm extremely skeptical he can be anything but a shadow of himself anymore, which is a true shame...watching him play was awesome. He was already pretty slow by the time he was hurt. At this point we should make a ride in a paint shaker part of his physical; "OK Chris, ride is over. Do you feel dizzy? Yes? Oh well, you can't play. See you next year."

Dudeman needs to just focus on life after hockey anyways.

It wasn't that huge. 1.25 million decrease for a 35+ guy. His real-life, non-cap salary through next season is actually a million more than what he was making on his last contract.

And, length has clearly done nothing to sweeten Streit's cap hit.

To be fair, Pronger was getting paid (still is) upwards of $7m. The two dummy years at the end make it a nice price.

Oh, the horror! Imagine if Pronger passed a physical and started playing again! What a terrible tragedy that would be!

Bad contract by Homer here, but with Briere and Bryz leaving, I can stomach it at least. Streit will at least provide something to the team. Briere and Bryz were negative, so they were 5.67m and 6.5m overpaid respectively. Streit will only be about $1m overpaid.

it's a one year deal

don't worry, Homer will throw in a 2nd round pick along with Mez to sweeten the deal

Somebody would take him. He can still be a pretty effective player if he stays healthy. He only has a year left until he's UFA anyway.

It's not terrible. The nature of FA is to overpay for talent. I'd like a year less on the deal, but the guy strengthens the teams biggest weakness.

Even if the team gives up as many goals as last year, the 2nd pp unit is going to be a real threat.

I'm not thrilled, but I think the deal is specifically beneficial for the teams needs.

So, when Isles fans say he slowed down, it's because he played the whole season with this injury. Streit is known as a fitness freak in Switzerland and I have no doubt he will regain some agility and speed.

I've given up on him ever playing again but there's still a very small chance he passes a physical and walks away taking us off the hook before his deal runs up.
