Some coaching news,

Quote:
Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie

PIT announces two-yr extension (thru 15-16) for head coach Dan Bylsma. As @DarrenDreger reported this morn, SJ extends Todd McLellan.

No surprise, the San Jose Sharks have wisely extended Todd McLellan's contract as head coach.

The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired 5-11, 191-lb defenseman Mark Streit from the New York Islanders in exchange for RW Shane Harper and the Flyers’ own fourth-round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

Streit's UFA rights obviously, if someone didn't know.

Interesting move for the Flyers if you ask me. I guess that means Pronger's career is over for sure. I'm also gonna guess that one of Meszaros or Grossman are traded in the offseason too, though Meszaros makes the most sense with 1 yr remaining and lacking a NTC.

Holmgren is going to make such a big mistake if he gives Streit even 4 per. Every Isles fan has been saying for quite some while now that Streit has been nothing other than a 3rd pairing PP-specialist for the last 2 seasons.

3rd pairing PP-specialist at 4-6 per. Ouch.

Pens re-sign Malkin to 8-years $76M, $9.5M AAV

http://penguins.nhl.com/club/news.ht...t-twt-penguins

Also Bob speculates that Pens can't afford Letang's new deal,

Quote:
Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie

Weber/Suter deals have skewed high-end D market. Safe bet to assume Letang will be looking for at least double his current $3.5M salary.

Just curious are teams allowed two compliance buyouts per year?

quite sure its 2 total, otherwise there wouldn't be so much discussion about which ones to buy out for the rich teams

It should be 1 every other year. I don't like the system. The rich teams will offer outrageous contracts then just buy the player out, kinda negates the point of the cap, while the poorer teams lose out.

We're talking about the amnesty buyouts here, the ones that don't count towards the cap.

If Flyers, or Habs since they're likely to buy out Kaberle (maybe even Rangers if Richards is gone), want to buy out someone next offseason, that would count towards the cap.

It's this and next offseason, from then on (2015 offseason) it's back to normal buyouts for everyone, no matter did or did you not use the two amnesty buyouts.

I wouldn't mind having him as a backup but I don't think he's near starter capability for us. We'd have to either trade or buyout Clemmensen and Bernier will ask for likely around the same money. I guess it's a possibility.

ya i saw that we were one of the teams named to be interested but I'm sure it wont happen. He wants to be a starter and won't be guranteed that here. I see him going somewhere like Calgary, NY Islanders, Oilers, Leafs, or Wild.

Danny Briere bought out by Flyers

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/...ct-buyout.html

I know he's said he wants a team close to Philly so he doesn't uproot his kids from school but should Tallon consider him at all if Mack and Weiss aren't pulling on a Panther jersey this upcoming season? Yes or No? and Why or Why not?

Even though he's 35 years old, I think he still has a couple of decent years left in him. He had 49 points last season and 68 the year prior and was supposed to get about $5 million over the next two seasons on his contract. Depending on who makes the team and who gets sent down to the minors, I wouldn't say Tallon should completely discard him. He might not be a bad choice to center say the third line.

I'd love to sign him if we don't draft MacKinnon or Barkov, but I don't think we're his first choice.

I wish we wanted to come here. Great player who kills us every time we see him. One of the best in the game at placing rebounds high in the net. Love 'em.
