For all intents and purposes they are.

Todd Nelson is pretty pissed off that the Oilers went with Eakins.

Eakins said something right in his interview. It does sound like the plan was to hire Kreguer some help and at some point in the interview process something changed. Did Eakins say something that blew MacT's mind and had him thinking differently?

I just skimmed the article, but did Nelson get an interview?

Well, I hope he gets an associate or assistant job with us sooner rather than later, but if not, I hope another organisation hires him as HC.

Saw on twitter today that OKC is getting an NHL game next season (not sure if preseason or what) against the Dallas Stars.

I would bet that Hall/Ebs/Nuge(if he's ready)/Schultz will be playing that one

I doubt he wants an NHL assistants job. For many, head coach of an ahl team is seen as a step up from assistant in the NHL since, it's more likely to lead to a NHL head coaching job.

I wonder if Nelsons reluctance to play Oilers prospects in important roles played a factor in him not being considered?

Or maybe Eakins just made that much of an impression on Mac T.

September 27, preseason game. Kudos to the Oilers & Stars for doing it.

I would imagine (and hope) that the kids & those that have seen extended time in OKC will be playing. Hopefully it's them, Lander, Paajarvi, Petry etc.

I think both statements are true. There seems to be some comments out there from MacT now about being on the same page with direction in the AHL. Is this Nelson's fault though? It was quite clear when they went to OKC that the goal was to having a winning team. They went on to point out the Stars farm club and how grabbing some key vets and having solid goaltending gives you a real good chance to succeed in the AHL. So really I can't blame Nelson.

As for the second part, I agree 100%. All indication so far was that they were looking for an associate/assistant not a head coach. If they were looking for a head coach then why wasn't AV interviewed or Torts or Ruff? Even kreuger talked about how it was his idea. I think just somewhere along the interview process something changed. Did Bowness say something and then Eakins continued on with the same talk? Or after Bowness who was offered the associate job did Eakins come in and blow MacT's socks off? I tend to think Eakins blew MacT's socks off.

I'd be temped to go with the latter. There were a number of prospects that stepped up into key roles in OKC, especially on defence. Rajala, Areobello, Marincin, Fedun, and Davidson all played big minutes for the team.

You can't say he had a reluctancy to play prospects just because 2 or 3 of them didn't get moved up after showing that they weren't worthy: (Hamilton, Martindale, and to a point Pitlick)

Anyone know anything about him? He was a 3rd round pick of the flames in 2010

Why sign Leech but not Bigos? both sound like the exact same time of defenseman. Bigos is bigger and tougher, Leech seems like a better shutdown guy.

Weird

So with Danis signing in Philly, who plays in OKC? Do we see Roy and Bunz battling for a starter position? Does Tuohimaa cross the pond?

My guess is MacT trades for a goalie prospect and him and Roy duke it out in OKC.

It sounds like Cheechoo is gone. He apparently signed with Medvescak Zagreb in the KHL.

Good for him. A NHL team would have been better, but oh well.

Talent Analysis

Leach has solid skating skills, an active stick and good defensive positioning while making smart outlet passes to his forwards. The shut-down defenseman has shown the ability to play both ends of the ice and provides a good accurate shot from the point on the power play. Leach must add muscle mass to his thin frame which will enable him to play more physical and make the next step to the professional level.

I really wish sending Gernat back to the WHL was an option, given that he missed the vast majority of the regular schedule this year. That is looking REALLY crowded. Maybe they're slotting Larsen in on the big club and carrying 8 defensemen?

I wouldn't be surprised.

I watched a lot of Oil Kings games last season and Gernat still struggles a lot defensively at the junior level. The ECHL might be a good step for him.
