Minnesota Wild Shopping Cal Clutterbuck, Tom Gilbert and Zenon Konopka

per Michael Russo
Quote:
So the reality is Fletcher will have to create some cap flexibility. Not everybody can come back. There will be trades, potential buyouts, etc.
Quote:
As I reported in today’s newspaper, Dany Heatley can’t be bought out because he is as of now deemed an “injured player.” He is doing well in his rehab and expected to be ready by training camp
Quote:
Fletcher says he’s been talking to anyone and everyone.

It really wouldn’t shock me if Clutterbuck were to be traded. He’s got value and has an expiring contract.

I hear the Wild’s been actively looking to trade Zenon Konopka.
Quote:
I also think if you do the math, if Tom Gilbert isn’t traded, my gut says he will be a compliance buyout just because it’s an easy way to get $4 million in flexibility.

I think everyone will be on in Clutterbuck. I could see Edmonton in on Konopka: Eakins and MacTavish are looking for toughness, Konopka's also a good faceoff man. I wouldn't be shocked if Minnesota finds a home for Gilbert, through trade, because of the absolute dearth of quality UFA defencemen this summer (Per Capgeek, only 6 UFA d-men averaged more than 20 minutes this past season).

Would love Clutterbuck in Winnipeg but so would other teams.

Wouldn't mind Tom Gilbert to play with Kevin Klein on our second pair.

Van would be interested in a Konopka and Clutterbuck package. What would it cost?

Jamie McBain + Drayson Bowman + 2nd in 2014
For
Clutterbuck + Gilbert

Minny clears salary, adds a Clutterbuck-lite at $600k in Bowman, and a great young 3rd pairing D with 2nd pairing potential (also Minnesota born) who can play the PP.

Canes get a bandaid 2nd pairing D in Gilbert for a year and a physical forward the desperately need.

The Wild's biggest need is a top 4 d-man, imo.

A poster on the Leafs board who is very much proven to have sources in the past said that the Leafs have inquired about both Clutterbuck and Konopka.

It's too long of a headline to say "Minnesota shopping Konopka, beat writer expects Clutterbuck to be traded, also Gilbert might be bought out or traded". And if Russo says he wouldn't be shocked if Clutterbuck were traded, it likely means he's heard there's something to it.

Pascal Clutterbuck in a Habs jersey would be a welcome sight. Brings what we need, at the right age, and Marc Bergevin would have the chance to negotiate his contract. Hopefully they could propose the best deal for him.

Why would the Leafs trade Gunnarsson for Gilbert? What a huge downgrade.

Make it happen. Gilbert on the Leafs top pairing would be great for the rest of the division.

Why would we give up all that young talent for bottom 6'ers and a buyout? I love Clutterbuck and like Konopka and know they have decent value for bottom 6 guys, but why would the Leafs pay all that especially considering they are doing Minny a favor in taking Gilbert off their hands?

If the Yotes don't resign Chipchura and don't land Hendricks, I'd certainly be interested in acquiring Konopka to center the 4th.

Clutterbuck would be a nice fit on the Isles' 3rd or 4th line.

No thanks. One he's buddies with Suter. Two, he's buddies with Suter. Three, he's really not that good.

Why do they want to trade Konopka? He's on a really cheap contract, fantastic locker room guy, always has his teammates' backs... ????

Loved him on the Isles and never understood why he was the odd goon out. Maybe there's a reason why he keeps getting bounced around?

Wild players available? Guess we will see Clutterbuck in a Sharks jersey by draft day.

Is he that bad??

I don't know much about him. Guess that happens when I basically watched only Eastern teams for the entire year.
