I would gladly take a run at Filpula. He would make this team better as well as be young enough to be part of the core. 4 year deal would be good in my book. Johansen with Gaborik and Filpula could make for a very effective line.

The two players I'd want the most are the ones we finished the year with, Prospal and Comeau. Shouldn't be expensive and both play important roles for us.

Or am I just being sentimental?

Is Filppula that good? My impression is that he is soft, one-dimensional, inconsistent, etc.. Or maybe because I loathe the wings I hardly ever notice him.

Pretty much.

Reportedly is looking for 5 mil long-term. He hasn't been that good once in his career outside of 11/12 season.

He has pretty good speed, outside of this season when he was coming in off torn MCL. But he doesn't use it too well, enter the zone from left wing, brake and pull back, look for options. He's been perimeter player, outside of possibly that one season. He can pk, and is solid defensively but brings no physicality, loses lots of battles on the boards and can disappear for large stretches, letting you want for more.

5x5 is good deal if he plays like last year. Maybe JK could motivate him or get him to a discount but I'd have fears that contract might look like as bad or even worse than R.Js.

With Streit signing in Philly, it looks like one of their compliance buyouts will be Daniel Briere. Any interest in him? I think he is top line material here. Philly fans say he's played predominately left wing, which I believe we could use here. I wouldn't mind a top line of Briere-Anisimov/Johansen-Gaborik. That might be the best first line ever here in Columbus.

We wouldn't need to use any existing assets to get him either. He's probably going to put up 55-65 points, maybe more. I guess the only question is his age (35), doesn't really fit into the youth movement.

His play has dropped a fair bit the past two years. Doubt he gets 55-65 points. Money in playoffs but that's about it.

I hear the Wild’s been actively looking to trade Zenon Konopka. Mike Rupp plays a similar role and Jake Dowell’s contract turns into a one-way contract next year, so he should vie for that fourth-line center spot.
Why do I have the feeling we'll be hearing that Konopka's available a lot this summer...

Cal "Defenseless" Clutterbuck is rumored to be on the trade block. I think he's the player you hate until he's on your team. He would certainly raise the physicality of the club and his style fits. Does the front office take a run at him?

If they do they might need to get rid of Wisniewski after the fine clutterbuck caused him

Nope

We need skill we've got all the grit we need. Not enough roster spots as it is.

My stance on Vinny is "What kind of an upgrade do JD & Jarmo have in mind that's feasible?". I'm eager to see if they've got something up their sleeve through FA or the dangling of 1sts and/or other pieces that's going to blow us away which either a) gives them a chance to see where Vinny fits or, the less desirable option, b) makes him expendable.

That's a lot of leadership that can still perform and wants to be here (presumably on the relatively cheap) to let slip away if there's no backup/immediate improvement plan. Fortunately, In JD/Jarmo I Trust.

Not a chance. He's redundant and not a step up for the CBJ. I'm not a fan. Besides Wiz might have a problem with this....

Let's get an upgrade by packaging a first rounder and change plus RJ Umberger for an RJ Upgrade.

Although not likely that'd be ideal.
