7th Player

OK- half the season has gone by, and there seem to be 2 clear-cut leaders in the 7th player award (i won't tell you who they are- you should know ). anyway, i thought we'd take a vote and see what everyone thinks. if you choose other, list who that is in a post.

I had a good indication that Raycroft would be pretty good this year, although he's surpassed my expectations to some degree.

I had no clue that Patrice Bergeron would be as good as he has been.

Agreed...

1) Bergeron. There isn't a soul in the universe outside of maybe Patrice himself who thought that he'd not only make the show but actually make a serious run at Rookie of the Year.
2) Raycroft. The extra year in Providence did wonders for him...a cool customer who kept the B's from ending 2003 in the cellar.
3) Donato. Who'd a thunk? I was incredulous when they signed him and even more so when he opened the season in the Fleece....but since his return from the demotion he's been Lazarus Revisited. One last hurrah for the Hahvid boy before he puts on a suit and tie for the "brain trust"?
4) Jillson. thisclosetobeinghwtaweneedasthetransitionblueliner .
5) Coming up fast on the outside....Shaone Morrisonn...get well soon.

Gallery Gods Award: Doing his best PJ Stock imitation....Doug Doull anyone?

Biggest Dissapointment: Starting with Girard's car crash to....ah Hell, there's too many to list right now.

Ask this question a few weeks ago and Raycroft would have gotten far more votes than he has.

excellent point...rayzor hasn't been bad, but he's slowed down a bit. i still would've chosen bergeron though, due to the fact that not a soul thought he had a chance to even MAKE the team, let alone be one of our best players every night.
also, kudos to donato. i wasn't happy with that signing at all, and was hoping for a rasmussen or someone with upside. nice to be wrong.

No. I would've said Bergeron then also.
Raycroft was expected to fill in the GK slot this year while everyone expected Bergeron to go back to juniors.....

nobody was more skeptical about picking Bergeron than me.

Kirk tried to tell me . I wouldn't listen.

Then when I saw the kid in Wilmington at camp , I was shocked.
At that time he looked like a veteran. Never missed a beat.
I wish the old Training camp posts that were here weren't lost in the last crash...

Then again after the great KPD/HG "You want positive" thing..

I'm probably better off this way.

wally- were you skeptical b/c of the passing over of guys like parise and getzlaf in the 1st round? i know i was. sure, stuart sounded good in theory, but as a fan you always pine for a guy like a samsonov, whose upside is seemingly endless. so when the b's got to the 2nd round, and pick a guy that basically got zero press, there's serious skepticism. how's your crow taste? mine's really really good- put a little old bay on it for added flavor

that's exactly it 'nugs...
getzlaf, parise,and then even O'Sullivan..

although I was told that no way no how O'Sullivan would be taken.

but that's why I make medicine and don't scout...

Bergeron is the real deal and Stuart looks like he just may be too.
Quite the quinela I'd say..

and crow ?.. I learned long ago that it's fine with a cold Killians or Crown Royal and ginger..

imagine if Bergeron does win the award...

I wonder if Marty will have to drive the new car home for him ?

Serious run, yes, but he'll have some stiff competition. Last night I was watching the NYI game. Trent Hunter was (like Bergeron) all over the ice, wheeling, taking some great shots and hitting everything he saw. Pretty impressive. Only seen him in about 4 games, but very impressive like Patrice. I think if they were in a dead heat, it would depend on which team showed more success during the season.
