Those are the adjustments to make, not just making adjustments to look like an a$$ hat. Even if he goes back to what worked and it works again and the Hawks win the Cup. the entire hockey fraternity is all giggling about Q's performance to date.
THIS!

The team had won 7-8 games in the playoffs including 4-5 against the defending champs.

At that point why are you changing anything? You leave it alone until it proves it doesn't work, then you change it.

Why before game 1 of the SCF are you suddenly making changes and fiddling with a working system?

What is most troubling about this team is the desire to play a full 60 minutes. That is coaching plain and simple. Q loves his shell
and loves to take his foot off the pedal.

And how in the hell do you know that Hossa might not play in the afternoon and have some sort of back up plan. Those starting lines were an embarrassment. You could have slotted Stalberg into the 2nd line and only disrupted one line. Instead, he boots up the Random Line Generator that spits out those combinations.

And Sharp should be playing #2c period.
Pretty much bang on.

Yeah, Sharp at 2C would be my first before some of the bizarre lines we've seen.

Q must be playing Plinko to make lines

Before anyone of Q supporters come in:

What have you won?"

It's the same thing with Bowman. As I've said before, let's agree to disagree and can them both. Way too late for that now, should have happened before the season, then the new guys would have got all the credit.

What makes me scratch my head is that if he knew Hossa might not be playing, why'd he put Mayers out in warmups of all people? Smith is probably our best replacement.

I'm still confused about the whole Hossa incident.

Contradiction over the Hossa injury?

1) Toews knew Hossa might not play in the afternoon
2) Q inserted Smith who was not even in the warm ups which looks like Hossa was hurt in the warm ups? In fact his was the story that was first out

Why does Q insert a guy not even dressed into the line up if the team knew Hossa was questionable?

This is very un McD like to have holes in a story.

Something just smells with these happenings.

Not at all surprised to see this topic bumped after consecutive losses.

Quenneville on why Ben Smith didn't participate in the warm-up: The #Blackhawks coach didn't want to tip his hand.

However, as I said in another thread, by saying Hossa's "likely" in for Game 4, he tipped his hand and gave the Bruins 29+ hours notice.

I don't post much but man is this thread an overreaction. Bottom line, Coach Q knows more about hockey than anyone here no matter what you think. Which is why he is where he is and in his second Stanley cup finals as a coach.

Well, he took a team almost everybody here thought would lose in one of the first 2 rounds, to the SCF. So clearly he is getting the best out of his players. I mean, all of you thought these players were scrubs and we would never make it deep in the playoffs. Right?

Says that Smith didn't do any game prep at all.

I didn't say that. I said this thread is an extreme overreaction and who are we to judge what he does. This series is far from over.

The secret weapon that is Ben Smith. I like the kid and he will be a great 3rd/4th liner next year, but come on man. In the end this wasn't the huge decision I question it was Toews with Kruger and Frolik.

Playing Smith but not letting him warm up because Q wanted to trick the Bruins is embarrassing (if that is the story)

He overcoaches, no reason to rework all 4 lines due to Hoss being out. Q must think line chemistry and familiarity mean nothing. Once Hossa was ruled out the simplest lines would have been

29-19-88
20-26-10
65-36-28
67-16-25

Instead he has Toews centering a 4th line for 2/3 of the game and pretty much every other possible line combo at some point during the game.

I can judge that over the last 5 and 1/2 periods, in spite of Q's adjustments and numerous line juggles, the Bruins have dominated.

Series ain't over, but I have to think that another 60 minutes like the last 100 or so is game over.

Ben Smith will most likely play fourth line right wing next season.

Kruger should never see time on the ice except as the fourth line center and on the penalty kill.
