Calgary-Edmonton

To Calgary: 7th overall + Musil

To Edmonton: Mark Giordano and Curtis Glencross

Edmonton fills its holes, Calgary goes full rebuild and gets a second top pick.

Go for it!

Ignoring the Flames/Oilers factor:

No thank you. Simpson is not a good enough prospect to consider it. I would want the 7th & 37th (or equivalent prospect)

but.....

Like I said that is ignoring that it's a Flames/Oilers deal, factor in that it's a deal that could make the Flames most hated rival a playoff team and it's not nearly enough.

The Flames are rebuilding, but they still need to ice a team.

Too many things wrong with this. Division Rival = over payment. Glencross wont want to go back. I dont even have a good counter offer because the two are terrible trading partners at this time for way too many reasons.

Could see something like this happening.

Calgary would be icing an entire AHL lineup next season if this were true. We would show the Oilers how to REALLY tank.

I changed it to Musil.

Also, I feel like Calgary is not our greatest rival anymore. It has been the Canucks for a few years now.

I think the basis of the deal (7th pick, Giordano, Glencross) serves needs of both teams. I am not sure what the other stuff would need to be.

I could see something like this happening, although it could become tough to sell tickets in Calgary, haha...

I would do that trade as a flames fan. 6,7,22,28 and a shutdown d prospect. That would give the flames great options on draft day. Perhaps trading up into the top five and other first round picks.

Both of them? I don't think there's a chance both of them get moved. Although they fill 2 of Edmonton's 4 needs. I would think both guys would bring back fairly high picks if lesser commodities like Iginla and Bouwmeester brought back low 1sts and two average prospects.

Really?

You guys have only beat us something like 3 times in the last 20 games? 3 - 17 against the Flames and you say we haven't been a rival in a few years now?

Back on topic:

I wouldn't trade Giordano and GlenX for the 7th + Musil. Those are our two top players and will be counted on to lead this team through the rebuild. You'd have to put a better offer together.

Intensity of games with the Nucks has felt higher, their team is more annoying. Doesn't have much to do with the record. That's our record against most teams, haha...

What would you want for those two players?

Every team has been beating Edmonton for the last few years. Don't pat yourself on the back too hard.

Solid response. (no sarcasm)

Giordano + GlenX

for

Gagner + Fistric (rights) + 7th.

Like others have said, we need to ice an NHL roster, and Giordano + GlenX are our two best players.

You're right, it's definitely not much of an accomplishment beating the Oilers, it was more figuring out what constitutes being a "rival" to the OP.

Problem with that from an Oilers perspective is we are trading away all of our center depth (and our ability to draft a center 7th). Unless Hall moves to center that won't work, and I don't think they want to move Hall to center.

I understand. Even putting rivalries behind us, the Flames and Oilers don't make good trading partners.

Agreed, would you do Gagner + 7th for GlenX and Gio?

Nope. Don't think there is a deal to be done between these two teams.

Ugh, I hate Gagner so much though. I've expended a lot of energy and time into building a solid case on why he sucks. The value is definitely there though. I'd rather do something around MPS and the 7th. I don't want any 90 foot players anymore. Good teams have 200 foot players. MPS plays 200 feet, Gagner doesn't. Also, the Oilers likely value Gagner higher even though they shouldn't.

No, Edmonton doesnt have the depth to do that. Not to mention Edmonton is trading away the only pieces they have capable of becoming 1b/2 centers.

What about MPS and the 7th? I'd have more interest in that than Gagner personally.

Probably true.

But the best leverage/asset for trading that Calgary has is the two firsts they acquired by shipping out veteran players.

If they want to make trades to significantly bolster their roster, they'll have to give up at least one of those two picks.

Good post, if we do want to bolster the roster I agree with you. I'm just not sure that we do want to do that quite yet. If it was the right player I might look at it. Something around guys like Burmistrov or Gardiner might make sense for us. Older players wouldn't make a lot of sense. A move like the Pens pick and a 3rd for Burmistrov and a 2nd is something I'd do. Or the Blues pick for Gardiner.

This is actually a good deal for both teams. It'll help Calgary tank and draft Reinhart first overall, and having four first round picks in the draft will give them a massive boost to their system.

If this trade happened who would play 2nd line center for the Oilers? Horcoff and Belanger are likely gone so our depth would be RNH Lander Arcobello. Dear god.
