Folks, Justin Schultz didn't get traded to the Flames, Corban Knight did. Keep all trolling, off-topic, pissing contests out of here, oh-kay? Or I start handing out thread bans.

Doubtful. He's the classic third line center. Great two-way game, physical, wins faceoffs and more talent than a 4th liner. If you're in Edmonton think a bigger Lazar and that's a pretty good picture of who he is.

I like this move by the Flames. He will get signed, 4th is nothing for an NHL ready prospect.

In all fairness, best of luck to Knight, which ever way you want to spin it, he didn't want to sign with Florida, we got something out of it, Flames got a young NCAA faceoff specialist that will take time to grow and mature. I personally do not believe he's NHL ready, but that's just from an observers perspective (Have seen him play multiple times).

We've already got a boatload of centers coming up our ranks. Best of luck Corban "Dallas" Knight

Irving should have played a lot more than he did in the A. He should have had the priority over two AHL contract goalies (Both of whom were very good but still on minor league deals) ahead of him especially when the team was facing a post-Kipper world. Hopefully Irving can find a team that will invest in his development and give him the coaching he needs.

The second problem was development of prospects. Brodie and Bart strike me as the kind of prospects that will turn our regardless of who the development coaches are. A good AHL coach would help make them better (IE - someone like Dallas Eakins) but they would still make it to the show. The proof of a coach's abilities are in how the secondary and lesser prospects turn out.

Hopefully Shanny can come in and bring good people with him so that guys like Knight can have a fighting chance. If I'm Knight I'm taking a serious look at the current Flames roster of coaches before I sign. Or at least he should be.
I agree with a lot of what you've said, but it doesn't make him a bad coach, it means he has the wrong marching orders. He got plenty of blood from the stones we gave him to work with. The only thing I disagreed with was Irving. He had plenty of time and plenty of opportunity. He didn't seize it. He lost his job to Matt Keatley, Taylor, Brust and the list goes on. IMO, he deserved to lose it each time.

That said, if he refuses to make the goal player development instead of winning AHL games than he should be replaced. If I'm Flames management I'm giving him clear goals and objectives and evaluating those, not the win/loss record. My goals are as follows:

1. Player development
2. Playing the same system as the parent organization
3. Player mentoring
4. Assessing and reporting player growth, attitude and fitness

Jeez, can anyone make a rib post without catching heat?

Panther fans have no reason to be bitter. It's not like we're losing a "Justin Shultz". Knight is a solid prospect, but isn't projected to be much other than a bottom-six'er. I hope Knight has the ability to help the Flames in the immediate future.

Not clear yet whether Corban Knight becomes UFA on July 1st or 5th but won't matter - agreed to terms on 2-yr entry level deal with CGY.

Awesome! He agreed to sign with the Flames.

Don't think they can officially announce until July.

Battle for Knight's rights came down to CGY and EDM. The High River, Alta., native opted for the Flames over the Oilers. Plays centre.

Picks the team that gives him the opporunity to play more minutes and get a better shot. No harm in that. Werent the canucks Schultzs favourite team?

Good to see MacT is active again

I wonder what impact this has on the draft and picking Monahan/Lindholm (if any)

Well that is unfortunate. Once you hit send that baby never coming back, don't know why that is so hard for so many people to realize.

Well hes in competition with Backlund and Stajan. Neither are entrenched #2 centers. He could realistically pass one of them on the depth chart.

Its a bit harder to pass Gagner whos been there for 5 years now. Or maybe he thinks Oilers wll go out and get a 2 way shutdown center for 2c

Glad we got something in return, but disappointed in Knight.

I guess Calgary makes sense since his from the area and probably the place where he can log most minutes.

Flames fans, do you expect him to stay with the big club after training camp next year?

What are the hopes and expectations for this kid?
