I really have no problem with that gameplan at all. I'm fairly certain most of us are aware that Read, as much as we love the guy, will be a cap casualty in the future anyway with guys like Giroux, Schenn, Coots all looking to get paydays shortly. His contract right now is extremely convenient for his production but would we as a fanbase rather have Read now, 27, who while very likable probably won't exceed the kind of numbers he's putting up currently, or the heirs to the Richards and Carter throne whose ceiling we really don't know yet.

Why not use Read's low cap hit ect. to our advantage to obtain another young goalie. We would now have two guys whom we can (for once) give time to develop. The Kings find themselves in a situation where as nice as it is to have Bernier as a young goalie, his value is high and he is somewhat expendable there. To me that deal is done in a heart beat and if we need to sweeten the deal with a throw in so be it.

On the optimistic side, the Flyers getting Streit also means that if they do draft a defenseman like Pulock or Morrissey, they shouldn't need to rush him into the NHL.

I say with Briere gone you play G-Schenn-Couturier-Talbot down the middle every single night, and see how Schenn and Couturier develop. In the long run I think Schenn and Couterier and both too good to play the third line and one should be moved, but I think if we wait at least a year on that we can a) be sure we're keeping the better 2C and b) get more value for the lesser. Both of their stocks will rise.

I'm not a fan of having two young goalies. The last time we had that it was Soderstrom and Rousell, and that didn't work. I think it is good to have a veteran presence to mentor the younger goalie.

I can't really argue that point in our history since I wasn't alive yet but I understand the caution. I'm just really reluctant to hand the franchise keys to net over to Mason without a plan B. He really hasn't proven anything in his career other than Bobrovsky is better than him having the same team in front of him and winning a Vezina.

In the pit of my stomach, I fear the worst, hope for the best regardless this server will crash from the Flyers Board July 1st.
Isn't FA pushed back til July 6th this year?

The next thing that happens is Homer offer sheets Pietrangelo 13 million for one year. And then everyone on hfboards heads simultaneously explode

for entertainment purposes, I hope this happens.

Back in realityville, just too much for one guy when the cupboard is so barren.

Que Prongo for an appearance on HF boards.

I only said this as a joke. But in reality it could work for one year and then sign him to an 8 year 60 million dollar deal

Honestly do you guys think a major trade is coming from Flyers this summer?

I am thinking Streit is just step #1 in your GM's summer plans

Nah, I doubt a major trade is coming. I could see Bernier coming in but it wouldn't involve us sending out one of our younger players.

Buyout Bryz and Briere. Trade Mez for a bag of pucks and a roll of tape.

After that, I'm scared. I have a feeling Homer might be a loose cannon in free agency.

Meszaros is the most likely trade candidate. He's played sparingly in the past 18 months and only has one year remaining on his deal. Furthermore, he's carrying a $4m cap hit and could clear significant space for us if we trade him.

Timonen ain't going anywhere, except for perhaps at the trade deadline if he wants to move to a contender and we are out of it.

Schenn is untouchable right now.

Grossmann recently signed a long term deal. I doubt we move him.

Coburn is the only other guy besides Meszaros that I think is available for the right price. He is a solid defender, but doesn't have the brains to be a true top pairing guy. Still, his term makes him more likely to stay than Mez.

I could see Read going for Bernier. Yes, that does open a pretty obnoxious hole on the roster since he plays in all situations...but, considering much of his value comes from his cap hit, his fairly old age, and the considerable raise he is due, it's likely that's a hole we'd be opening at some point anyways. Might as well deal with it now. We can always fill it when Ryan signs here in UFA

I definitely want them to deal away Meszaros, because I don't want to wait around any longer for him to recover from yet another injury. This team's defense has been crippled by injury prone players.
