Because they would literally be sued to the extent that they would no longer exist. Even if they somehow managed to survive the onslaught against them, they could no longer claim to be an amateur athletic organization acting in the best interest of their student athletes. They would have to start paying student athletes and their crooked business model would be destroyed.

Always a little disappointing to see a player spurn the team that drafted them, so I feel bad for Florida. However, Congrats to the Flames. I think he'll be a good shutdown center in the near future and I really wanted him on the Oilers.

Not that they do anything close to acting in the best interest of their student athletes. "Here, have 30 million dollars worth of scholarships; we'll just take the hundreds of millions that we make hundreds of millions off of your play."

Wow rebuild over!

I am glad we got Knight I think he will make a real good 3rd line player but I feel bad for Florida that it went down this way.

No, He was a 'Nucks fan.

He has seen the light now, though!

Good deal though. You'd be happy if your 4th turns out as good Knight given most bust, and he's ready to go.

Goddamit Calgary. Now we have to put up with people on our board whining because Gillis didn't get Corban "The Saviour" Knight.

And now European players starting with those drafted in 2013. CHL players re-enter the draft because teams only hold their rights for 2 years, where as NCAA and European players drafted in the future will have their rights retained for 4 years.

Likely 925k plus bonuses, so somewhere between 925,000 & 3,775,000

heh, wow, that sucks for florida, but i think most have known that he didnt want to sign with them for a while. I predicted ealier in his prospects forum thread that florida would trade him for whatever they could get rather than waiting for him to go UFA august 15th, and now it's happened.

That's how it works, yes, absolutely.

Pretty sure any organization, let alone a professional sports team, would disagree entirely.

That's a direct quote from Knight. I'm not saying it makes sense, but that's what he said. No need to reprimand me.

the UND coach was interviewed on Fan960 and he said similar things. He never went into any details but more or less said the same and that it was best for both parties.
