expect something similar to the Staal deal as a basis for a return for Letang, but with significantly more oomph.

i think he will be on the block if he won't budge on $7M per year. the Pens just don't seem interested in paying anything more than $6M or $6.5M and i don't blame them.

I wouldn't take anything Rob Rossi says seriously.. He's a total joke.

Its Rob Rossi saying this so take it with a grain of salt. He claimed that Yandle to Pittsburgh was a done deal last year at the draft.

What does the Penguins D look like without Letang for next year?

Shero is meeting with Letang's agent tomorrow at the GM's meeting. If Letang wants to much, I suppose Shero will be throwing his name around to other teams.

This was discussed on insider trading tonight, some chatter about how Shero won't likely go into next season with Letang not signed to an extension.

Pretty hard to say without seeing who/what would come back in a deal for Letang.

Hopefully Rossi is right this time (not likely). Now is the perfect time to move him, coming off a Norris nomination and with a year left on his deal. The return should be large.

I have no idea. Harrington, Pouliot, and Maatta are not ready yet imo. Dumoulin should be ready for next year, and take over a role in our defense.
Martin-orpik
Despres-?
Engo-Dumoulin

Well it all depends. If he's traded it can't be without a top 4 D coming back but then it's a question of if Depres can handle top 4 minutes. Orpik and Martin will fill out the rest of the top 4.

If Letang is moved and no one else is brought in the pens defense will look like this below. If he is moved i wouldn't be shocked to see a D man returned in the trade or signing someone like Scuderi to play top 4 minutes.

Martin-Orpik
Despres-Bortuzzo
Niskane-Dumoulin/Engelland

Staal would only sign extension with Carolina. Prevented deal with Coyotes from being consummated officially.

If he is traded:

Orpik - Martin
Despres - UFA/Trade
Niskanen - Bortuzzo/Engelland/Dumoulin

Not TOO bad.

He'll re-sign with the Pens, that I'm quite confident about. They'll settle in the $6.5 million per range.

Staal was already traded to Carolina at that point.

It was just Rossi being Rossi.

The Staal situation had nothing to do with the Yandle rumor. Shero was talking to Phoenix about trading Michalek to them. Rossi jumped the gun and automatically assumed shero was trying to get Yandle to play with Letang. He was wrong

The only thing Rossi has been right about this year is Bylsma's extension, and there's a good chance he guessed.

Just a couple examples: apparently the Penguins were definitely not going to try to acquire Iginla and Crosby's injury was 'mostly teeth.'

I've talked to a lot of people and a lot feel like Scott Harrington could be ready next season. Guess it will depend on his training camp because it appears a spot will be open.

I have seen Harrington play, awesome dman. Worried a bit about his lack of a physical presence, but he has such a good stick and such a high hockey IQ.

Losing Letang will suck, but the penguins can not afford to pay him what he wants. He deserves to get paid, but it wont be from the penguins.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Shero acquire a good dman at the draft.

personally my favorite Rossi moment was when he predicted James Neal to score 17 goals and he went on to score 40.

I also liked that time when he didn't know what an F3 was.

Agreed about Harrington. Although, I think it's best for him to spend at least one year in the AHL.

I hope it's not true that Shero and Letang's agent haven't discussed an extension; meanwhile Shero has been in contact with Dupuis' agent.

They have to keep Tanger, a lot of these allegedly great dmen prospects are years away from playing on the pens. Is it really worth losing Letang over $1 million a year? Thank god we have Fleury wasting $5 million to sit on the bench. Tanner Glass is one of the worst players in the league and he makes over a million a season. Kennedy is making $2 million to suck. Orpik was horrible during the regular season. The pens have their fair share of underachievers, dump them, not Letang.

agreed. no need to rush him.

such a stupid rule that you have to be 20 years old or older to play in the AHL.

our defensive prospects have lost a year or two in good development. playing in juniors wont help these guys develop as much as the AHL would.
