Russian press is reporting that Buffalo showed additional interest in Zykov and Zadorov after the combine (according to their agent)

RU LINK - It's their agent's interview and he answered that Zykov will come in a few days early to New York for interviews prior to draft (aka draft week interviews; I believe Zadorov too) .. both returned to Moscow to renew their visas and it sounds like missed additional interviews/testing (EDM Zadorov, MTL Zykov, BUF both) .. also notes that Buffalo interviews had a psychologist and filmed the tasks they were asked to complete.

Hockey’s Future 2013 Staff Mock Draft:
Quote:
8. Buffalo Sabres

Elias Lindholm, C, Brynas (SEL)

Elias Lindholm is the best player available, and even though the Sabres have taken a lot of centers, they can never have enough depth. It would be easier to move centers to the wing than a wing to center, especially with players like Tyler Ennis and Cody Hodgson both sporting sub-50% faceoff percentages in their career. The Sabres have a pretty good crop of young defensemen (Mark Pysyk, Brayden McNabb, Jake McCabe), but none are guaranteed first pairing material and each have glaring holes in their game so far. Darnell Nurse would have brought a lot of athleticism and nastiness to the blue line, but as he is off the board, the Sabres take the best player available.
Quote:
16. Buffalo Sabres (from Minnesota)

Nikita Zadorov, D, London Knights (OHL)

It is a close call between Zadorov and Ryan Pulock. Having used their earlier pick on a forward, it makes sense to shore up the blue line a bit, especially after missing out on Darnell Nurse. Zadorov gets the edge with his much bigger size at 6'4 and 200 pounds along with good mobility for a big defenseman.

Zadorov has been inconsistent all year, but with several offensively-minded defensive prospects already in the system, a potential shutdown player is more likely than other available players Ryan Pulock, Shea Theodore, or Mirco Mueller. Zadorov is a low-risk selection even though he must develop his consistency, but the Russian blueliner has the tools to develop into a top-four defenseman in the NHL.
I can't argue with that result.

Getting Lindholm would be fantastic, though it'd be tough to see Horvat go one spot before us at #15. If he fell past 12 I'd really want Darcy to try and move up and get him.

Horvat-Larsson-Girgensons

Need I say more?

If the actual draft goes like HF's mock, I'll be ecstatic. Coming out of the 1st with Lindholm and Zadorov would be amazing.

Another item I noticed is Calgary comes outta the first round with a rejuvenated prospect pool. But if that buffalos draft I'm stoked but I'd inquire to see what dman carolina would want to move up.

I hope Calgary botches the pick at #6 and then aces the rest of the draft.

Has there been any word if Domi, Horvat and Nurse were shown additional interest from Buffalo? If the scouting staff is targeting hard working character guys than those 3 would be on their radar but they're part of a small group of 1st round hopefuls that haven't been confirmed to have been in Buffalo last week.

Since Pegula claimed that hard workers are going to be the no. 1 thing they look for when drafting, who are the guys at the top of the draft that have that reputation?

Well, in speaking with EDM STH, MacTavish touched on his appreciation of Nurse (“You’re preaching to the converted, I love that guy!”) and possibly trading the #7 (up, to target a center; down 7/8 spots to gain another asset) from 12:00-13:55.

I dont think you can take that as fact..they may still want Jones but are positioning themselves for someone to feel the need to trade up (Florida, Tampa and Nash) ... Smart move by Avs to put it out there that the automatic choice of Jones is not so... keeps alot of possibilities on the table for them

Wow. I mean, this has always been a distinct possibility, but virtually all the speculation and mocks to this point have been based on the Avs taking Jones at #1. And if they truly are favoring the three big forwards over Jones (it could be a big smoke-screen after all), it follows that even if they traded back to #2 or #3, they'd still probably pass on Jones.

So...who takes him then? Tampa could probably use some D, but they'll be tempted by a potential franchise winger or a really, really good center to give them some pretty enviable depth.

And so begins Seth Jones' inevitable fall right into the laps of the Luckercanes. If this actually happens, I'm going to be so pissed

I have a hard time believing this isn't a smokescreen. As great as the forwards are...Jones makes too much sense to that organization.

Interesting. Regardless of if it's true, it's a smart move from the Avs brass to get this out there so they can pick up additional assets from somebody.

Personally, I wouldn't be upset because I probably hate Jones more than anyone else. Even if Colorado stays at 1 and picks a forward, I'd still expect someone in the top 4 to take a defensemen, whether it's them staying in their current slot or someone else trading up to select Jones. Regardless of this leak, I'm still praying that Carolina takes Nichushkin at #5.

They have an excellent young core but you have to take BPA at #1 overall. If they feel it's MacKinnon (personally I think he's 1st by a fairly wide margin), then you have to take him. They can flip RoR or Stastny at the deadline for defense if that's the route they want to take. They're not contending next season anyways.
