Please nobody click the link. He's a dolt who can't get much right. If this eventually happens, it won't be because Rossi told us.

local Pittsburgh site says that Anaheim could be the team to watch.

says penguins are interested in Gibson and Sbisa. article requires membership to view full article so I expect there is another name such as Etem. but Sbisa and Gibson would be good starting points.

This. The local Pittsburgh media is awful. The Canadian media is much more reliable when it comes to Penguins news.

I would do Etem + Sbisa + one of Gibson/Fasth

Problem is that in a world where 35 year old Mark Streit gets 4 years at 5.25 a year, Kris Letang is going to get PAID.

Next years Pens defense also depends on whether Shero turns to dealing from D to insure that he gets value for assets who are not in the long term plans.
If we keep Letang, which I still think the more likely outcome, there could be a lot of reason to first of all deal Niskanen, but also to consider dealing Engelland who has one year left on his bargain deal, before he will inevitably be able to demand a lot more. That is the main value of Engelland right now, that he is a hell of a lot better than a 600k D-man should be.

We already have Despres and Bortuzzo who are ready to play, and Dumoulin looks solid for third pairing spot duty also. Then Harrington, Maatta, Puliot and Samuelsson waiting in Wilkes Barre.

Orpik Martin
Despres Letang
Murray Bortuzzo
Dumoulin

I think Murray helped our PK big time after his arrival, and I wouldn't be at all opposed to keep him on, if his salary demands are meaningful.

no. It was Rossi and there was a video at the end of the year that had Neal giving Rossi **** about it. Nobody reads TIOPS so I doubt anyone knows what he predicted

Etem was our best forward in the playoffs. I doubt we would put him in play.

But he could play with his BFF Beau Bennett here

There's not any real rumors to a link with Anaheim, but that's the type of return Letang would get back, whether Etem or another forward. (Although he might not even actually be on the block)

I think the Pens would be making a mistake by moving him. Who QB's the pp with Letang gone?

that's too bad. I would love Etem.

put him and Bennett together and you got 2/3 of a CA line.

Paul Martin looked great in limited time as the PP QB.

I think you could get a similar player back, but these trades aren't as clear cut as getting the 'right value'. The perils of trading a player in their final year is that you always have to make a few concessions. With that said, I don't think Letang is moved at all. Unlike the situation last summer, moving Letang is a step backwards. They'll re-sign him.

"great" is not really a good way to put it. He didn't really do anything nor was he asked to. If that is what you want on the Pens PP then so be it. Put it in Malkin or Crosby's hands, fine with me. But saying Martin was "great" isn't really accurate. I'd say he sufficed and was responsible.

giving him the 7+ million that he wants would handcuff us and set us back more than trading him and improving our team and getting younger.

I don't think he's moved either.

No it doesn't. This is a common misconception. There's more than enough capspace for Letang at $7m.

He was the best QB we had all year, imo. He was a guy that didn't make any mistakes, kept the puck in the offensive zone, and provided help on short handed breakouts. I guess I shouldn't have called him great, but he could easily replace Letang on the PP.

If your team feels that restocking the cupboards at the expense of the near future is necessary, they'll do it, but these trades don't make your team better in the present. The guy you're asking for is paying dividends for us right now, and we got him making the exact sort of trade that Letang would get. We needed to do it at the time, and we were prepared to wait the 3 to 5 years to get the benefit from it. Is Pittsburgh? I don't think they are.

putting over 25 million dollars into 3 guys doesn't win you championships in today's NHL.

having a balanced attack and having good guys around your elite players

The Problem with Letang getting over 7 million is it leaves literally like 5 million to fill like 4-5 forward spots. Only way they get saved is if the cap goes up by like 3-4 million next year

Do you mean for the 2014-15 season? He's still only making $3.5m next year. It's likely the cap will go up a couple million the season that his extension is kicking in. Plus a lot of our dmen will be on ECL's and there's always the possibility of moving Fleury if cap space is truly an issue.
