Joe Sakic Av's VP-We Will Not Select Seth Jones

http://m.denverpost.com/denverpost/p...tguid=iVVcm66b

Sakic says they will pick Nathan MacKinnon, Jonathan Drouin or Alexander Barkov, all of whom Colorado has rated ahead of Jones. Question is, where does Tallon have Jones rated? I have read that Jones is dropping with one unidentified Pro Scout saying he didn't have Jones in the Top Four.

Ughhh, I'm pissed. *********** off Dmen...they never do anything for us or other teams at top of the draft. Our multiple year cup runs starting in 2016-17 just ended in a big THUD.

I DON'T WANT DROUIN EITHER, soft perimeter wing type guy, will not translate to next level into 70-80 plus point guy...least not on our roster (maybe with Bolts or Pens-elite scoring weapons).

Tipping your hand 12 days before the draft? I smell a smokescreen

I would say that this was a Colorado bluff to get us to trade up with them but as I wrote I have read opinions not connected to the Av's that said Jones is a risk as the Top Pick with comparison's to Eric Johnson and questioning the wisdom of selecting any blueliner with the Top Pick in the Entry Draft for the general reason that forwards make a quicker impact than defensemen and if you have an early pick you want a guy that can be a force quickly on your team.

On the other hand, Jones is the local favorite and if you're not going to select him maybe you say so early to soften the blow to him and his fans. And Sakic didn't actually say who they would pick or even if they would keep the pick, only that they would not select Jones with one of the first three picks.

Trying to find a silver lining. Maybe if Tallon knows he's not getting MacKinnon he re-doubles his efforts to sign Weiss.

Smokescreen. Dont think you tip your hand with a over a week left. I think Sakic is trying to get something extra from us in order to pick Mac.

Jones is the complete package, I actually think MacK benefited a lot from playing with Drouin and we all know we're not getting both MacK AND Drouin.

I think Jones and MacKinnon are BPA. Drouin is not going to be Pat Kane. Those 2 are what this BS is all about.

Jones looks great, no doubt. But I think Tallon would try to get someone that could compliment Huby. He knows that to maximize Huby's production, he needs another top talent to go on that line. Drouin or Barkov (if Mac is gone).

FML if we don't get MacKinnon... Incredibly disappointing if things end up this way; I want to see an exciting offense in Miami.

Teams never go out and say who they're looking at. This seems fishy, I don't buy it.

I'm calling it a bluff. Why would he go out in public and announce that. It doesnt make sense. He's trying to fool Tallon to give away an extra asset imo.

I will be so upset if we dont get MacKinnon. Typical Panthers curse to get bent over like that. No offense to Jones.

considering they said all three are too good to pass up, it wouldn't surprise me if they are trying to trade down and this is basically letting the 3 teams picking behind them "make us an offer"

that being said, just don't take jones. please. i'd be fine with mackinnon, barkov or drouin. just not another d-man.

Firstly, bravo on the sensationalist and misleading title. The Avs/Sakic haven't said anything definitive, only that they are leaning towards a certain trend of thought.

Secondly, if it is a ploy to make Florida bite and trade up it should not work. If Florida want who the avs want, then no trade will happen. If they want different players, they won't bite. The Avs won't trade out of the Top 4, so the only way to manufacture a Florida trade up is if there is a threat from Tampa/Nashville of trading up and taking the player Florida wants.

I think i am leaning towards Barkov/Drouin over Jones too, so it isn't the end of the world if they don't acquire Mack.

No issue with taking any of those top 4. Would be perfectly happy with Jones.

Other than hockey writers, the majority of opinions I have seen on the draft have Jones lower and Mac or Drouin higher. We all watch the same games and most of us (though not all) see that defensemen take longer to develop and are a bit riskier to develop. It isn't a big surprise that the Avs think the same.

I don't believe this is a smoke screen. I always hear about teams bluffing with their top pick, but I can't recall an instance that has actually happened, where a team says they will do one thing and do something completely different. I would be really surprised if the Avs say they aren't picking Jones, and then turnaround and select him first overall.

jones is the best d-prospect since pronger, pronger had, arguably, the highest peak of any d-man during the 90s and 2000s

And everyone says d-men take longer to develop, but I think Jones will have a big impact sooner than Drouin will.
