Could they possibly lure Dave Lewis from Carolina to be that assistant? He worked in Detroit, he's been on the defensive end, and certainly would be someone both Nill and Recchi have ties to.

I saw a report somewhere that Ulf Samuelson might be willing to come back to the NHL as an assistant for NY. Wonder if he'd come back to Dallas.
I'm confused. Did you mean Ulf Dahlen?

I'd be all over the idea of getting Dahlen back. That would be amazing.

His wife and kids sat 1 row in front of me for two seasons when he was an assistant coach. True story.

I'm pretty sure you guys are going to hire Blashill. If you do, I think you'll be getting a pretty damn good coach. As somebody said, he's loved by his players. He's a bit of a player's coach.

Dallas Stars continue to sort through coaching candidates. Nill will meet with Ruff again this week and Tortorella remains in contention.
No word yet on when Blashill will be interviewed, at the earliest I'd imagine this weekend. This will be at least Ruff's second interview with the Stars.

Ruff's interview is on June 20th in Dallas.
Even though game six in 1999 started on June 19th, Hull's goal wasn't scored until June 20th.

Hope so. He seems to have the strengths of Gulutzan (teaching, communication) with the added ability of being able to raise and maintain high expectations.

Nill: Hey Lindy, come in, have a seat.

Ruff: Thanks for having me back

Nill: One question, for all the marbles... on this august date 14 years ago...Goal or No Goal?

Ruff: Damnit

it really bothers the hell out of me that Blashill looks like someone on tv who I cant think of. If this guy is our next coach I better find out who that person is or ill end up in a straitjacket.

Couldn't you find a big picture of Greg Kinnear somewhere?

IIRC, I believe during the ASG in Dallas that Ruff made sure to make it clear by saying the word Goal.

Well, LeBrun was going to have a update on the Stars coaching search, but completely left it out

That's it, I assume it will get updated later. As of now it mentions about "Seth Jones" and then about Lecavalier.

Heika confirms Ruff's 2nd interview in Frisco tomorrow + more.

Quote:
Nill talked to former Rangers coach John Tortorella as part of his trip to the NHL GM meetings in Boston Wednesday and is expected to speak soon with Grand Rapids Griffins coach Jeff Blashill. The Griffins won the AHL championship on Tuesday, so Blashill is just now available for interviews. However, Nill served as his boss for most of this season when Nill was assistant GM of the Red Wings (the parent organization for Grand Rapids), so the two know each other well.

It's going to be Ruff or Blashill. I'm not sure which I prefer.

Who will be the Stars next coach?

Jim Nill’s search for a new coach for the Dallas Stars is proceeding slowly.

After pursuing Alain Vigneault and seeing him land with the New York Rangers, Nill continues to survey his options. There is no deadline on his decision.

“There’s too many good candidates out there and I want it to be the right decision,” Nill said.

Retreads joining their 2nd team are popular recently and having some success. Boudreau and Carlyle immediately had impacts with their new teams.

The most recent coaching change in Detroit, they went with a guy coming to his second team as well (of course Babcock was never fired by Anaheim ... left on own terms).

Nill has been very non-committal ... making comments indicating he'd like a guy who has been there before while also saying he wouldn't eliminate the possibility of a new coach.

My gut ... influenced by trading and signing for Gonchar ... makes me say Ruff is named Dallas' coach sooner rather than later. I think Nill is committed to winning right now more than anything else. That's also why I'm thinking that Boston pick could be trade bait if other teams really are hesitant to move 1st's.

My feeling as well. What interests me about the situation is that Nill knows Blashill already. He knows his style, his demeanor, his ability to work with younger players, and now he knows his results - in the AHL. I can't imagine what Blashill could say or do in an interview that would surprise or talk Nill into giving him the job if he weren't already leaning that way. I honestly feel like Blashill is the leader in the clubhouse unless he literally tells Nill that he doesn't feel ready.

The other side to that is he could be doing Blashill a professional courtesy and giving him his first NHL head coaching interview. I can't get a good read on the situation at all. I'm actually starting to hope we go with Ruff. There will be new team growing pains but not new league and new team growing pains.

I'm not sure who I prefer as well, however neither look like bad options so I will trust the choice Nill decides on.

I mine as well post this here, not much to say, but a freind of my fathers wife spoke to willie desjardins wife today (from medicine hat, used to coach here), she claimed tippett is the top candidate and they think he will be available (I honestly dont think so imo) and willie was 3rd option for the organisation. No idea who is second, i might have to ask or maybe she didnt say. Did not sound like willie was expecting a job offer though.

File this under the rumor category but i did not see much news in the way of coaching for you guys.
