3- The point is, you wouldn't be stuck with a 3.5 million dollar backup if you didn't want to be.

4- Bolder = Exactly. Luongo isn't going to stick around to make 1/7th of his normal salary as a backup.
1. 6M AAV over 4 or 5 years. I do not think that would be a good contract. I think it is a possible contract that he would be offered.

2. I know what the talking heads have said. I know what the contract looks like. I still don't think it's smart to just assume something like that is going to happen. Especially with millions of dollars hanging in the balance.

3. That was never part of the discussion. I never said (or meant to imply) that Dubnyk is unmovable.

4. I'll you're gazing into that crystal ball of yours, can you tell me the final score of the NBA game tonight?

Indeed, so wait and see or get dealt. That's what I've been trying to say.

(The last thing anyone should do is put a timeframe on this... buttt)

I think a deal is done at the draft.

If not the draft, then by free agency at the latest.

No way it goes past July 5th (although I may have just jinxed it)

Tha with his salary lessened but now double length, Lu can retire even more comfortably knowing for 6 or 4 or however long he'll still be receiving a salary.
Because this is what your cap hits would look like if you did that:

2018-19: $2,534,667
2019-20: $4,298,667
2020-21: $4,916,667
2021-22: $4,916,667
2022-23: $583,333
2023-24: $583,333
2024-25: $583,333
2025-26: $583,333

1) Fair enough.

2) Fair enough, I just feel like these contracts were designed the way they were for a reason.

3) I think your original point was that the Oilers would be stuck with 8.5 million in goaltending, to which I said Dubnyk could be moved for help elsewhere. Neither of us really know what he would fetch from a team needing goaltending..

4) Your in a very small minority of people who think Luongo will stick around to finish his contract and sabotage his team.

P.S. 106-98 Miami

Can someone explain to me the fluctuation in cap hit? I keep seeing people post these type of situations like with the cap penalty if Lui retires and it always fluctuated.

The short answer is there is an equation that takes into account how much money remains on the contract and what the original salary and cap hits were and then spits out an answer.

The long answer is here if you feel like reading and learning and stuff: http://www.capgeek.com/faq/how-do-buyouts-work

No way. Dale Weise is the Gretzky of the Dutch league. Toronto should at least have to add JVR and another 1st + 2nd. And retain 50% salary from everyone.

I figured that was assumed... No way Vancouver can take on all of Torontos cap dumps without them retaining some salary!

Geez Toronto shouldn't have signed those players to those contracts! Lucky Vancouver is saving them some buyouts here

Last I saw, he was arguing that Luongo could/would rip up his contract because he said he would in his press conference at the deadline.
