I've been following the Flyers closely since 1999. Big difference between throwing in draft picks (not sure how you know those deals would have happened without the picks but whatever) and throwing in Read or Couturier like suggested.

You guys realize the Ryan rumor is most likely complete BS Timmy P either made up for web hits, or was given to him by a source who was totally trolling him, right? Unless a rumor comes from someone with any credibility, we need to relax a little.

The trade proposal really doesn't even make sense to me. We just don't have the organizational depth to be dealing multiple valuable assets for him. Ryan is not some guy who is going to push us over the top. He is just a nice piece.

Maybe I'm being silly, but it's so obvious we need to keep what we have, including the 11th pick, and just build like a normal team.

Most likely

Eklund has said that the talks between us and ANA actually center around Hiller

Timmy P...I can not believe he made that up he is maybe the worst but not that bad. I have something in mind...what if...Homer just told him (favor for favor he will be the first to know if the trade is done) to break a news with two assets already in play with another team..lets say LA...for a player everyone know Flyers want...so they can pressure them to make a deal quickly....I know Homer is capable of such a thing. If its the case thumbs up for Homer and Timmy P!!!!

Homer's game plan:

1) Briere? If no,
2) 2nd round pick? If no,
3) Matt Read? If no,
4) Draft picks? If no,
5) RFArmageddon

/kidding

I think Homer will do fine this off-season. I just hope he has patience to wait to see what the buy out season yields as well before wheeling and dealing.

Right, but is that just a smokescreen to pressure the Kings?

It's so complicated.

I like Hiller, but would Anaheim really give the reins to Fasth so fasth?

Questionable choice, but I'll allow it.

Ryan is the opposite of what this team needs. Think of all the hate Carter got here, its just going to be magnified with Ryan who is worse overall than Carter

Pronger LTIR Question

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but do the Flyers need to get under the cap inclusive of Pronger's cap hit by the time the offseason ends, or can Pronger's LTIR go into effect instantaneously at the start of the league season?

From my understanding, Pronger's cap hit is ON the books until the season starts, so it will count as being part of their cap hit. There is a 10% cushion though, correct? I suck at this.

Yes, 10% offseason cushion.

I understand the summer cap, but I am talking about the sequencing of when the season starts and when Pronger officially goes on LTIR. Are the Flyers required to fit Pronger's full salary under the normal cap the instant offseason ends, without any LTIR relief? I believe you are saying yes.

I do not claim to be an expert, but as it was explained to me on the main boards last year, a player cannot be put onto LTIR until after the initial compliance date for the salary cap, but can be before the season starts. Therefore, in our estimation of free agent dollars, we cannot include Pronger, but we can literally spend up to the cap and know that we'll have his 4.5M to use for inseason moves as necessary.

Again, someone else may be able to cite the CBA better, but this is how it was then explained to me.

OK, that's what I was expecting (grudgingly). Makes the most sense. You have to allow for the possibility that the player will be healthy and accounted for on the cap. It's a good faith principle.

Here's a thought... (I know I just said ignore Ryan, but then I came up with this idea.)

Ryan is basically an older JVR.
Coburn is similar to an older LSchenn.

Part 1. Coburn for Ryan.

Now we need to replace Coburn.

Part 2. 1st for Sbisa.

Overpayment? Yes, but we need it to get a young defenseman and it'll make Coburn for Ryan an easier pill to swallow.

Part 3. Read for Hiller.

Overpayment for a goalie? Yes again, but I'll take it at this point like many would take Read for Bernier.

Coburn + Read + 11th

for

Ryan + Hiller + Sbisa

The value seems relatively fair considering various recent deals around the NHL as well as many rumors floating about.

Ryan - Giroux - Voracek
Hartnell - Schenn - Simmonds
Gagne/Raffl - Couturier - Laughton
Rinaldo - Hall/Holmstrom - Talbot
Rosehill

Timonen - Schenn
Streit - Grossmann
Gustafsson - Sbisa
Gervais

Mason
Hiller

Good? Bad? Ugly?

The teams swap wingers and defensemen. Then a goalie for a 1st.

The only part I don't like is not having a pick in the first round. I would rather do 2nd this year and first next year

If this deal isn't made until after we draft, then I wouldn't hesitate to make that our 2014 pick.

However, if we do it at the draft, ANA is going to want our 11th overall.
