It seems a lot of his good moves are immediately followed by something bad.

Homer is sort of like the perfect gambling addict for a casino. He takes home enough money everyone once in a while to keep him coming back, but over the long run he's just bankrupting himself

I love the title to this thread, one of the most enjoyable I've ever seen. I swear, Homer must be by-polar or something. Hell, maybe he and Snider are both just senile.

Holmgren has made a hell of a mess of this team (with Mr. Snider's help, I'm sure). One deal or one player drafted over another is merely a small component of the whole picture. There are too many "what if's" over the last four or five years.

Taking forwards over defense makes some sense. Continually selecting forwards over defensemen results in a high priced defense that will take a great deal of effort to fix in the coming years. In a salary cap world, successful teams have a combination of young players on entry level deals and higher priced veterans. Can we say that about the Flyers' defense? Is there any chance we'll be able to say that about the Flyers' defense in the next two years?
I agree that more needs to be done at the draft to fix this defense.
As I see it the problem with buying your defense instead of developing it,
is that you can only get the players that other teams feel are spare parts.
They will keep their best defensemen, what we get is the leftovers in most cases.
Not a means to a sound defense only to an overpaid and average defense.

If the Flyers spent the majority of their top picks on D and developing them, they would be buying forwards as UFAs.

True, but there are a lot more of them available at a wide range of prices.

The Shelley signing? Too often ex-players who move into management try to draft/sign/or trade for players who duplicate the type of play and level of talent they had while playing. Jody Shelley is a perfect example of that type of behavior.

I just hope Craig Berube isn't a future GM for the Flyers, but after seeing Snider's stupidity in former appointments for that position I wouldn't be surprised!

To be fair, this wasn't the landscape 2 years ago. The new CBA flipped the FA market on its head. The likelyhood that a #1 defender hits the market has nearly bottomed out. This just wasn't the case previously.

Yeah... some GM's make Holmgren look reasonable and sane, don't they?

Streit isnīt only a 35+ contract. He also earn 5.25 for being a playmaking 4. defenseman! Oh yes he can play on the 1st PP. What a heck of a player....

Oh wait, Homer has managed Streit to get a no movement clause!!!

I CAN`T BELIEVE ALL THIS ****!! Streit will go down next season or he will slow down like other before him. He will overpaid for 2 seasons or more....

HOMER NEEDS TO GO!!
