Look at their production level and the hardware they've won though. Perry won a Hart and Rocket Richard Trophy from a 50 goal, 98 point season. Getzlaf also has a 90+ point season under his belt along with seasons where he finished with over a point per game average.

I'd say they've produced significantly better regular seasons than Dustin Brown ever has, so we can't really look at them as comparables. Brown is like Justin Williams but more physical. Their production level is about the same, and given his stature on the team, I'd say $5M is in the right ballpark for Brown.

$6 Mil would be high, but don't you doubt for second some team would offer him that on the open market, as it's hardly about just GOALS with Brownie, and I have to believe AXL, KNOWS this, so not sure why he posts acting like it effects his fantasy league but come on ... FIRST LA KING to LIFT THE CUP ... hell you guys wanted to pay Voynov $5 MIL ... yet don't want to pay Brownie ? for shame !

I don't expect Brown to "CASH IN", but I fully expect Brown and Dean will work out a deal that will see Brownie get MAX years at a FAIR AVV that will fit within Dean's long term CAP Plan for the Team. Ziggy's $4.5 to maybe $5 Mil over 8 yrs are about what I'd figure too.

You know what, I'm feeling generous today....give him the 6-mil. But hell NO on the NMC/NTC...that's the only thing that we can use to get that dude to play to his potential!

Fair enough. I guess I just play it conservatively.

Brownie better never wear another jersey other than a Kings jersey is what my heart tells me (and my 2 Dustin Brown jerseys ). This guy is heart and soul, and if a player ever had LAK tattooed on his ass it's him.

8 years, 40 million, NMC on first 5 seasons, limited NTC (list of 5 teams) on next 2 seasons. That'd be a completely fair deal for all sides. Not that I'd trade him at any point really, but 8 years is a loooong time, better not to tie your hands the whole way. Brown gets to stay for the foreseeable future, gets his payday (front load the deal as much as possible in new CBA), and the Kings get a first line winger locked up longterm for a reasonable amount. This one should be a no brainer.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Brown enter in talks and take a discount, long term deal, immediately. That's just the kind of guy he is and what we would expect of a captain. Doesn't surprise me at all to hear that this is on the horizon right when it is possible to do it. I hope this deal has a clause in it. I never want to see Brown in another uniform, ever.

Top 6 wingers that score 25-30 goals and are among the league leaders in hits are hot commodity. And now he has captained a team to the cup. I think he'd quite easily get north of 6 million on the market, 7 million something.

For some reason many Kings fans don't appreciate what Dustin Brown brings. I think 6 million would be fine, it's not ideal by any means but if that's what it takes to get it done I would hope the Kings sign those papers. 4.5M only happens if Brown is being ridiculously generous.

Lowest year can't be less than half the highest and I think the year to year can't change more than 35% (which isn't broken here but...)

I'm guessing those priorities include re-signing Scuderi, moving Bernier, and retaining most of the current RFAs. In addition to Brown, the Kings must also extend Matt Greene who will also be set to become a UFA next summer.

Brown signed a 6-year, $19.05M pact back in 2008 ($3.175M AAV). My inkling is that Brown will be re-upped for another 6 to 8 year term at $4.5M per.
Thats exactly the same term I was thinking Brown would get. 6-8 years at 4.5-5 mil per.

Brown will get North of Five and half million, and he will deserve every penny of it.

I agree. I am surprised people think he's going to take much less than that.

Well he did last time, but he wasn't nearly as proven as a player, he obviously hadn't lead the team to the Stanley Cup and he wasn't a potential UFA at the time.

But just imagine if Brown were to pull a Blake/Smyth, he would have a ton of leverage. He was the first King to ever touch the cup (after having a huge postseason) and he plays the position where the Kings just happen to be weakest at.

This team would suffer in a big way if Brown left.

2013 Brown was on pace for 32 goals over an 82 game season. The 2013 Brown had 4 fewer goals in 36 fewer games than the 2012 Brown.

He played very injured so I think you should cut him some slack. Prior to his injury he was having a good year...

Uh what? You kidding me?
Year - Team - Lea - GP - G - A - PTS - PIM - +/-
11-12 - LAK - NHL - 82 - 22 - 32 - 54 - 53- +18
12-13 - LAK - NHL - 46 - 18 - 11 - 29 - 22 - +6
Pace
12-13 - LAK - NHL - 82 - 32 - 20 - 52 - 39 - +11

Brown was hurt all playoffs. He did admirably considering that this year. Don't see how his regular season was any worse this year than 2012. He is a consistant 25-30g, 50-60pt hard hitting gritty leader. Not too mention we are now buying all UFA years, not RFA years like the last contract. That makes a huge difference.

Honestly though, I just do not see 6 million for a guy like Brown. Considering his personality with the involvement in community and huge loyalty to LAK, he will take a hometown discount and be at 4.5-5.5 million per season over a hugely long contract. His biggest thing, IMO, will be that no trade clause. And we have absolutely ZERO reason not to give it to him.

I think 5.5M AAV with 6 years for term is fair.

There are always three teams that are willing to pay a player more than he is worth. Those are perennial chasers. Chasers of players, chaser of wins. But they always fall short of the wins and end up abandoning ship or have to dump solid role players who contributed. The Kings have been built the right way and are not in the business of paying players more than they are worth. That is why the Kings are set up to be contenders every year.

Obviously we all want to keep Brown. I am sure Brown knows the business plan and will not ask for more than he is worth. He is modest and loyal. He knows someone will pay him a million more but I'm confident he will take what his ACTUAL value is.
