Buyout period?

I've been wondering, is there any specific period where teams can use one of their 2 buyouts or they have basically all summer? I haven't heard about it anywhere and I feel there's probably some sort of time limit for that.

If anyone knows the specifics, please let me know. Thanks!

I think it is 48 hours after the Finals end until July 1st (or maybe 5th in this case).

I Could be wrong.

I think you meant to label this thread as "Clarification", not "Speculation".

There's no such label as ''Clarification''. For lack of a better one, I chose speculation.

There is a limited period to use the buyouts and it falls before free agency so that the bought out players have a chance to find employment with new teams before teams fill their rosters.

Sounds about right.

Thanks both of you for the clarification!

"In 2013, the buyout period begins 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends and concludes on July 4 at 5 p.m."

So that could be as early as Tuesday if Boston wins games 4 and 5.

there are two buyout periods...

1. end of june after the season ends and before UFA period starts. this year with the locked it will get pushed into July.

2. During september after arbitration hearings have occurred

Looking at the Final, the buyout period will be very short. Expect some spectacular trades from some poor teams to unload. We will see the twisted side of the new CBA. Too bad that Philly has already their hands full of amnesty buyouts because Holmgren would have put out a show.
