I think a more likely trade would be Franson + 21st overall for 7th overall if Nurse is off the board when the Oilers pick. I think the Leafs get slightly better value than the Oilers but still not sure if the Leafs could afford to make that trade as Franson has established himself as a top 4D with lots of room for growth.
I don't think it would be Franson, especially to move that far down. He's right handed when we already have Petry and J.Schultz on that side.

Sorry dude, the value isn't there and the Oilers aren't looking for a 5/6 RHD.

Wouldn't shock me if it was a prospect swap or depth trade. Both teams need help down the middle and Oilers need defense, which leafs seemingly don't wanna give up at all. Don't seem like very good trade partners for bigger impact deals.

Eh, if it was a depth move and both teams are waiting to announce until after the playoffs are done thats much ado about nothing.

Well, hopefully the Leafs give him 5/6 RHD money. Him being on pace for 50+ points in the regular season and ~PPG in the playoffs doesn't help, though

Seen him play a bit (don't forget he played for NSH for a few years and we get leafs shoved down our throats every saturday night here in Alberta) and he's a bottom pairing Dman who's great to have on the PP.

I'll give you guys that he had a great playoffs, but he's not a top 4 D and he is most certainly not a top 2 D on the Oilers.

How can u say Franson is #5-6 dman. The guy was a top 10 scorer for defenceman in the WHOLE LEAGUE. That is not a 5-6 defenceman. Wow

He had 4 goals and 3 of them were on the PP.
Sorry, not convinced.

Franson would be arguably your #1 D...While I don't doubt that in the near future Schultz will be better than Franson, as it stands today, I'd say they are pretty equal. HM to Smid. Franson would be one of your top 3D.

The guy is 25 years old and was on pace for 55 points, 11 goals this year if you include his playoff stats (7 goals, 35 points in 52 total games). That would have put him 2nd in points for all D last season after Karlsson.

The only players who played >50 games with a better PPG on D that season were E. Karlsson, K. Letang, D. Byfuglien

He's finally learned how to use his 6'5 frame to throw big hits and has a fantastic point shot that is ridiculous at getting through traffic and from his stick to the net quickly. He's good off the rush on D, his biggest flaw is defensive zone positioning, this can be taught by experience and good coaching. Franson is a great defenceman and you clearly haven't watched him play if you think he's a bottom pairing D.

Things change. He got his chance. Played amazing all year and better in the playoffs. I prefer we keep the hometown boy anyways.

There's no way Franson would play ahead of Smid or Petry. Although, I think he improved a lot this year, and a pairing of Belov-Franson would be interesting.

It's like I said 3 or 4 posts up.
We've seen him play for Nashville for a few years here in Alberta, not to mention we get the leafs crammed down our throats all year by TSN and CBC, so yeah, I've seen him play.

Since you're including his playoff stats into his projection, would you like to talk about his 20% shooting ? Because here at HF we love to use the phrase unsustainable about that kind of thing.

Oilers need a solid defenceman and Leafs have a few to spare.

I have to think with the possibility of Rielly making the team and Gardiner/Franson establishing themselves, Liles as a solid veteran taking over for Whitney could make sense.

Gunnarsson Phaneuf
Gardiner Franson
Fraser _______

These guys are staples on Toronto's defence. Not sure what the deal would be.

Anyway, Kyper is probably looking for hits, but who knows maybe there is something. If Gardiner is going the other way we'd need a solid return back, that's for sure.
