He was actually pretty good in the four games he played early in the season. I don't know why he was never re-inserted into the line-up, but whatever, too late for that now. Kind of weird that we're using a buy-out when he only has a year left, but I guess it's a nice gesture towards a guy who's been nothing but all class.
Ron Wilson was absolutely the worst coach in the league for him to play under, and it's pretty much sidelined his career. Hopefully he can get back on his feet with another team.
Komisarek is a good guy, and I never thought he was as bad as Wilson/Carlyle seem to think he is. What the Leafs need right now is a solid stay at home minute-eating defenseman to play with Phaneuf, and its a shame that we are buying out Komi when he was supposed to be capable of that.
I like the guy. I really do. But with 1 year left, it'd be a stupid move to buy him out. This is a team that has the financial might to leverage a trade out of a buyout. There's also potential to actually need these buyouts next season if a few guys don't pick up their play next season. Guys with more than a year remaining...
If we could mutually agree to release Komisarek that'd be great, but these buyouts are assets and you only get two of them. I really don't bear any ill will on the guy, but come on, his contract was over $17 000 000 and he was mediocre for us at the best of times. I'm not gonna feel sorry for him if he has to endure another year of collecting millions more for doing nothing before he can have his pick of the teams that will take him.
Seriously people, if you maintained the same lifestlye you have now, you could probably retire off what he's going to make for doing nothing this year. nothing. Nice guy, but he's being WELL compensated for waiting a year.
I can't even pretend to know his game as I never see him play. He seems like a solid guy. In that I hope that TML does buy him out to see if he can actually hang in the NHL. TML went through a phase of wickedly overpaying for stay at home defenseman only to bury them with the Marlies.
I wouldn't mind seeing Montreal bring him back for the bottom pairing at around 1.5M. We are short on RD and with Emelin out we could stand to add another physical D. I really doubt that we do it though after we have extended Boullion and Drewiske for the 7-8 roles (6-7 without Emelin).
