I would say both years are misleading. His rookie year everything he touched the first two months went in, his 2nd year was the opposite as everything went wide and missed the mark. He was clearly effected by the injury, but I think he's somewhere between those two extremes.

Actually watching him though, he looks like he'll be a much more complimentary player than anything, deferring the more high profile roles of carrying a line to stronger linemates. Doesn't mean he isn't a good player or isn't invaluable, but that he'll be much more of a product of the team and his linemates, as opposed to Hall(or Tavares) who go out there and carry a line(or a team) regardless of who they play with.

As I said, he'll be good, but I don't see hardware(or 100 point seasons) in his future.

I think RNH and Hall are on the opposite ends of the catalyst scale. RNH pushes the play because of his elite hockey sense. He is able to find the open man and dish it to him. RNH also has/is developing elite puck possession skills. It is damn hard to get the puck from him in open ice or on the boards. The only way is physically pushing him over. However, he doesnt have the elite speed or elite shot (its good, but wasnt great last year) and he doesnt have the physicality of Hall.

On the other hand, Hall plays a wild style, he pushes the play by driving wide and using an elite shot. He is also developing good playmaking skills. That is why why many say he drives the play. However his puck possession skill in nowhere near RNHs. Alot of times he tries to toe drag in or dangle and he winds up loosing it. He then has to use force to try and get it back. His passing and overall playmaking skill is nowhere near RNHs.

I think both can carry their own lines, but in different ways.

I can see RNH both hitting 100 pts and captaining a team some day. The offense will be going through him primarily, he's going to rack up serious points if our offense works out anywhere near expected. The kid's a class act to boot, very humble.

I could see him being a Sakic type leader in the future. Sort of a quiet leader who gets it done on the ice.

That being said it's Taylor Hall's team and he's going to be the next captain, and hopefully stay that way for many years.

RNH could be the next next captain, but Hall is the next captain, barring anything crazy.

I'll say No 'C' this year . . . with Dallas coming in as new coach I think he will want to see who the guys are on and off the ice and then will make his own decision for next year.

That being said I could see Hall one day but maybe they give it to a vet that comes in until Hall matures a bit more.

My thoughts as well.

We haven't had a heart and soul captain since Smith and Ladi would make a great one (in my opinion).

Wow.. only 85% have voted for Taylor Hall.

Next thing you know he's going to be our scapegoat for everything.

Anything less than 100% is crazy.

Completely disagree.

If you want to give it to Smid, sure, but I don't like bringing in a veteran player and making him captain.

Unless he's a really, really, good player.

You know I wish it was a good idea. If Smyth was even close to the player he use to be, right now I am not even sure he makes the team. He might be a press box guy. In theory it would be perfect to give it to him for a couple years, but, man, he blows.

1) Giving it to Smyth would be an embarassment.

2) I've seen lots of people talk about them being young and whatever - I think Hall could handle it. Crosby, Toews, Lecavalier, Yzerman were all named captain at a younger age than Hall and all went on to captain their teams to at least 1 Cup. If we were talking RNH, I would say hell no. But Hall? I have no doubt he could not only handle it, but I think he would thrive.

i dont get the point of giving the captaincy to a player who is "heart and soul" but not an obvious elite on ice leader. we have had plugs as captain as long as i can remember (aside from Weight) buchburger, smith, moraeu, horcoff? that trend needs to get bucked. I love smid but he isnt a captain. Its obvious Taylor Hall ignites the team. make him the captain and let him run wild. I also disagree with giving the captain to someone for a couple years then giving it to hall? what is the point in that? If Hall is the leader of the team which he obviously is by his work ethic and skill set them make him the Captain now.

I think Hall would be a suitable captain but right now I believe Gagner would be the best option as captain given his experience, his hard work and dedication to his career has been impressive.

I'm really not a fan of the whole home/road captaincy thing. It's seems kind of minor league.

IMO you're either a captain or you're not. Is one of these guys any less of a captain on the road? Are they only considered a leader in one location? It doesn't make much sense to me.

Lecavalier had his C taken away and given to Andreychuk when they won the cup.
