Even I'm not that crazy and I say a lot of crazy ****.

I can kinda see where you're coming from...I think what you mean that if he DID hit NHL-level, he'd probably excel rather quickly, which I believe is true.

One can argue from what we saw in his few NHL games hes just about ready...but I don't know enough about defensive development to have an opinion on that.

4.I don't see Schenn as a future center. He is a winger.

NOTES:
I traded the 11th overall pick + Coburn + Laughton for the 3rd overall pick (Jonathan Drouin)
I signed Cullen, Bozak, Emery and Scuderi.
I bought out Bryz and Briere

My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Jonathan Drouin ($3.000m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($4.250m)
Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Tyler Bozak ($4.000m) / Wayne Simmonds ($3.975m)
Scott Hartnell ($4.750m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Matt Read ($0.900m)
Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Matt Cullen ($3.500m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.750m)
Jay Rosehill ($0.675m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.000m) / Luke Schenn ($3.600m)
Mark Streit ($5.250m) / Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m)
Erik Gustafsson ($1.251m) / Rob Scuderi ($4.000m)
Bruno Gervais ($0.825m) /
Chris Pronger ($4.941m) /
GOALTENDERS
Ray Emery ($2.500m)
Steve Mason ($1.500m)
OTHER
Buyout: Oskars Bartulis ($0.100m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $69,434,856; BONUSES: $2,800,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster):- $2,334,856
All top-5 picks apart from the first overall are way overrated.

I would refrain from paying a bundle of what more or less equals 3 first round picks for a completely unproven player in Drouin. What if he never peaks and we end up with just another ordinary top-6 winger!

Coburn is a proven top4 defenseman when on his game, Laughton has been a two way scoring machine in Juniors so far and is on a good way. I'd rather have them pick wisely at 11th overall and find us a cornerstone for our defense.

I like the trend of having "biggish" (or at least play big) guys who can skate. See: Kings/Bruins (Lucic)

LUCIC - 6'4 : 229 lbs (2nd round 2006)
WHL 05-06 : 62 GP - 19 P - 149 PIM
WHL 06-07 : 70 GP - 68 P - 147 PIM
NHL 07-08 : 77 GP - 27 P (0.35 PPG) - 89 PIM

MCGINN - 6'2 : 196 lbs (4th round 2010)
QMJHL 08-09 : 48 GP - 30 P - 25 PIM
QMJHL 09-10 : 50 GP - 62 P - 50 PIM
QMJHL 10-11 : 42 GP - 64 P - 39 PIM
NHL 11-12 : 18 GP - 5 P (0.27 PPG) - 19 PIM

NOEBELS - 6'2 : 205 lbs (4th round 2011)
WHL 10-11 : 66 GP - 54 P - 23 PIM
WHL 11-12 : 62 GP - 58 P - 26 PIM

We drafted McGinn and Noebels as a direct response to the success that Boston found with Lucic. We're looking for big, hardnosed wingers who can score and be aggressive. That's why we wanted Tom Wilson too.

WILSON - 6'4 : 209 lbs (1st round 2012)
OHL 11-12 : 49 GP - 27 P - 141 PIM
OHL 12-13 : 48 GP - 58 P - 104 PIM

I was against drafting Wilson when we were rumored to be after him, but all things considered, he could very well be the next Lucic.

Good post. I was rooting hard for McGinn this year and wasn't a fan of his benching. I was also hoping to see Noebels (perhaps later in the year when it was clear we were toast) -- set his frame in front of the net during PPs to get some work in.

Here is the way that I'd like to see things go:
1. Trade Hartnell and Coburn for Ryan and Hiller
2. Re-sign Gagne
3. Draft Ristolainen or another potential top pair defenseman. Trading for them costs too much in talent and $$$$.
FORWARDS
Tye McGinn ($0.775m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($4.250m)
Jay Rosehill ($0.675m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Wayne Simmonds ($3.975m)
Bobby Ryan ($5.100m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Jason Akeson ($0.900m)
Simon Gagne ($2.000m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Matt Read ($0.900m)

After the season starts, LTIR Pronger and Bourdon. That adds about $5.5M cap space to sign a FA or two that you have made deals with pending the LTIR.
Give Laviolette until Xmas to make this roster work or he goes as a Christmas present to the fans.

He was a guy a lot GM's coveted and a lot of fans hated. Wilson figures to be in the NHL next year after a good season followed up with a dominant perfomance in the playoffs. I like the Laughton pick a lot now but if we drafted Wilson it would have been the same result, a lot of freaking out on draft day for no reason.

Noebels was called up at the end of the season and expected to play the last few games but he decided to play in the WC. Honestly wouldnt surprise me if he won a roster spot or was one of the last ones cut. Big guy with good hands.

Just wondering, would anyone else be interested in bringing back Leino if/when he is bought out by Buffalo? Assuming he is willing to sign a 1/2 year deal at/under 1 mil. I think he could be a good winger on the third line and he might be able to get back his old Philly magic.

No, he's too poor defensively to play 3rd line.

No thanks to trading Coburn and Hartnell for Ryan and Hiller. Hope those aren't your lines either, complete waste to get Ryan then put him on a line with Talbot and Akeson. That defense is starting to look atrocious, especially with no Kimmo next year and aging Streit. Can't get rid of Coburn with no replacement; Risto wouldn't be ready in time.

Do think the team should take a good look at Ryder and Brunner (if Brunner makes it to FA). Dont think both will break the bank and I think Brunner can offer more bang for his buck.

I'm not sure McGinn was healthy. He took a few nasty head shots that affected his play. I like his hockey sense and hands. He should be on the team for sure next year.

I'm room temperature on Ryder, mainly because I think he'll garner more cash than he's worth. I'd rather let the amnesties shake out, as there will probably be much more interesting options.

Yea I get what your saying. Obviously if he goes overboard I say no go also.

Agreed on the amnesties. Our defense is set. Our bottom 3 is set. We have Hartnell,Giroux,Voracek,Simmonds,Schenn,Couturier, Read. Means there are technically two positions open (this is if Lavy doesnt do the stupid play Talbot on the 3rd line and Rosehill every game). Go after Brunner with the one spot and the other you can take a stab at one of the buyout players. Interested to see if Hossa is. Shame he will price himself out though.

Yeah was there a reason McGinn got sent back down? I thought he looked good when he played and his advanced/possession stats (albeit in a small sample size) were pretty good. Seemed like he wasn't out of place playing top 9 and second power play minutes.

Thought he never really came back up after he got his orbital bone broke in that fight? I'm not sure. Either way, liked what I saw from him, if we don't find someone better in FA I'd like to see him on either the 3rd or 4th line. Maybe he takes Read's spot if he's moved for Bernier.

Would rather have Matt Read than Brunner.

EDIT: To clarify, if the Flyers use cap space on Brunner, Matt Read is gone when he's an UFA. Would rather use an ELC guy we have to fill a spot and use the cap space on a Read extension.

I just lumped the forwards together and did the same with the defensemen. They can be lined up as anyone wants. My call here on the roster is that Hartnell and Coburn go for Ryan and Hiller. Holmgren said, at the end of the season, that he wanted to improve the defense which he did by getting Streit and get stronger up front which they would with Ryan. Everyone knows that the goaltender situation has to be improved and adding Hiller would do that. The cost for a young defenseman-Shattenkirk, Pietrangelo, etc is prohibitive. They have to draft and grow their own, so they keep their #11 pick. Key thing here is that roster is under the cap w/o going into LTIR.

They have to draft and grow their own, so they keep their #11 pick. Key thing here is that roster is under the cap w/o going into LTIR.
Why not something like Coburn, Read, 2014 First for Ryan, Sbisa, and Hiller. Maybe we add our second from this draft. But Coburn gives them a defensive partner for Fowler, Read replaces about 20-25 goals they would lose from Ryan but also a defensive upgrade over Ryan. Hiller would be mostly a cap dump for the year since Fasth broke out last year.

Ryan gives us a big time winger for Giroux, Sbisa somewhat replaces coburn and Hiller lets us buy ouy Bryz and have a backup plan for mason. Then we make our decision on a goaltender next season. We also keep our first in this years draft. I would not trade that at all.

Hartnell-Giroux-Ryan
Schenn-Couturier-Voracek
Gagne-Laughton-Simmonds
McGinn-Talbot-Rinaldo
Rosehill

Timonen-Schenn
Streit-Sbisa
Grossmann-Gus
Gervais

Mason
Hiller

Trading Coburn will not improve the defense when you have Grossmann and Mezaros as big injury concerns. Coburn is the perfect partner for Streit.

I'd love to sign Brunner if he makes it to free agency.
