I really hope I just am not seeing the right videos and such. If this post could not be farther from the truth, please link me a vid so I can fall in love with yet another player.
You're saying that Barkov can't create plays? He's one of the best in entire draft. IMO Barkov is by decent margin better playmaker than MacKinnon and posesses better offensive vision.

I just found a video which includes Barkov's all shifts from one game. This is 8months old video and Barkov is #16 with the golden helmet. You can see that Barkov glides alot but when he sees the openings he can skate suprisingly fast. You can see how he helps the D pushing opposite player to the boards to Defenseman can just pick up the puck. Again Barkov was just turned 17 and he played against grown up men. It's not like playing against 16-19 year old and make highlight reel dekes against them. This is not a highlight reel but all shifts from one game so you can get better picture of his game.

And Barkov uses his size very well at puck battles. He isn't punishing but playing hard. I count like 3 or 4 hits in that game. Using word soft is wrong. If Barkov is soft then i would call Mikko Koivu as soft too...

Came for Robert Stack content. Was not disappointed.

A+ RL.

My prediction... Avs trade #1 to Tampa for #3 and Kucherov. Tampa takes Mac. Florida stays put and takes Jones. Avs take Drouin. Avs also trade Stastny to the Jackets for #14 and take Ryan Pulock.

And we all have fun watching this and no one gets into a fight.

I find this interesting because the elite players in the league are all over the place size wise. Crosby is the same height and Mack and Duchene I believe. Sakic was 5'11". I think it lies more in the way you play the game. We have been working as an organization to add size and you guys are probably right that it does play some role, but does it really take priority over someone like Mack?

Look at Duchene last year...find me one player in the NHL that Duchene couldnt do anything against...He straight up knocked WEBER off the puck...stole it from him and passed it in front for a goal. It looked effortless as well.

Size probably adds a factor to an extent but when we are talking about top end talent...is Barkov's ceiling as high as Macks? Will his size really make him that much better? I saw one vid on Mack that compared him to Stamkos...we could REALLY use that scoring threat.

Mac is not Stamkos. Not nearly as good of a shot. Mac is closer to a more physical Duchene with a better shot, but slightly worse hands and not quite as flashy. Barkov is a lot like Kopitar, Barkov is a slightly worse skater now, but better than Kopitar was in his draft year.

I had thought about Stastny to Columbus as well, but was thinking more Nikitin and one of their later 1st rounders, probably 27th overall. Then they'd take Theodore or Mueller.

As I told RL as well, I think it's due to his lack of intensity on the ice. It seems whatever he does looks too easy for him and passive at times while MacKinnon has that intensity game he brings shift and shift out. That doesn't mean Jones is a bad player at all because that is far from the case, but could be another reason why the Avs decided to pass over him. I am still heartbroken.

I still would rather have

Jones & Petan than,
MacKinnon & Theodore

Thank you for posting the vids. I liked what I saw. By the way, I never said he doesnt create plays, I just said I didnt see it in the videos I had seen. He made some nice passes in a couple of those videos including a pretty impressive one out of the corner to the slot.

I can see why the Avs would like him, I still dont think he should be taken at #1

I'm just excited to see what they do. If they can add a significant asset in addition to getting one of those top players, it's a good day.

Also this is clearly the best of our FOUR draft threads, due to the awesome OP.

On the other hand, when you mention him as a complimentary guy...is that really what we want to take with this high of a pick? Landy and Duchene are center pieces of our franchise and I feel this is where we get a 3rd center piece to really solidify our young talent. We need a natural goal scorer, can Barkov be that? He does seem to finish plays well.

I guess here is my next question for you, Mack or Barkov. From both a pure talent and as a fit on the Avs...which do you take?
From a pure talent perspective? Absolutely MacKinnon.

And when I say he's a "complimentary guy", that is more to do with where I see him in our top 9 group over the next couple of years. He wouldn't have to do the heavy lifting, even if he's capable of it. I think it would be a smooth transition for him, getting to play along with guys like Landeskog or Parenteau.

I think he's fully capable of growing into being an above average first line center. Having him and Duchene as a 1-2 would be very solid. Different styles to throw other teams off, beat them in different ways.

In the end I would probably still rather have MacKinnon, but I think there's a great argument to be made for Barkov and I wouldn't be shocked if the Avs scouting staff did value him more than anyone else at the top of this draft.

These threads move so fast that many posters don't even see page one so it's an ungrateful task to put a lot of work in a summary.

Mack needs to stage a photo of himself in his bedroom as a kid, with Avs gear on the walls.

Thanks RockLobster for the summary. I went away for 3 days and had no idea what happened.

I still think Sakic/Roy are bluffing.

I'll rather be drafted #1 overall than #2 overall too.
