Isles beat writer on hockeybuzz seems pretty confident that Niederreiter will be traded at the draft. I'd love us to pick him up, but not sure what wed give for him and not sure why the isles would be interested in dealing him to a division rival though...
yes i was thinking Bouwmeester. I dont read anything on Eklunds site outside of Meltzer's stuff. Add that to the fact I have been awake for less then an hour and I have never heard Jonathan Bernier referred to as JB.
I still would do Read for Bernier. If Lombardi wants Couturier yeah i agree tell him to take a hike.
Yeah let's give LA Couturier so they win another cup with a shutdown centerman to replace Richards if his health continues to be a problem
Agree. What the hell has Niederreiter done? He's an overrated prospect IMO. Trading him for Matt Read doesn't make us better now.
Pokka is decent prospect (6ft, 200lb righty d-man from Finland), Niederreiter does have the bust factor but would be a great trading chip so we could stop getting a new Couturier to wherever thread made everyday. Maybe do something like flip Nino+something minor(3rd rounder) for Bernier and pocket Pokka.
I came across this (satirical) article at SB Nation:
Report: Flyers Trying to Acquire Everybody
"They want everybody very badly, and feel everybody could put them right back on track," the source told Panaccio. "Expect everybody to be in in play and connected to the Flyers this off-season."
The source goes on to say that the Flyers plan to submit offer sheets to every restricted free agent and sign every unrestricted free agent while also exploring trade offers for every young regular, every highly-touted prospect and every veteran in the NHL.
They end the article by talking about the cap difficulty with acquiring everybody, and even though they are buying out Briere, Holmgren is interested in immediately re-acquiring him.
I'd not Read straight up for Niederreiter not because I am fully confident that Nino becomes as good or a better player than Read, but because of the cost/control associated. Read is very, very likely entering his final season with the team, whereas Nino is a controlled asset for several more seasons.
