Rob Shremp Practice Shootout Goal

Have you guys seen the Rob Schremp goal in the shootout practice. It was unbelievable. I'm not sure how long ago this happened or if I'm rediscoverng the wheel and everyone saw it but me... www.faceoffmagazine dot com (url won't work on here). The video link is at the top right corner of the page. Basically, he scoops the puck and dangles it in the air back and forth and misses the chance. Anyways, have a look.

I kinda thought so, but I really wasn't sure. I guess it's worth another look.

I'll say the same thing I said at the time. No goal...high stick. Impressive tho. But I think the golf shot at the verry end is amazing.

I wonder why that site is filtered here.

Schremp's hand-eye coordination is ridiculous. The clip from him in practice swinging his stick around his head and keeping control of the puck is insane.

I'm not sure that high stick contact matters in shootouts.

I was at the OHL allstar game last year and he did the same move in breakaway and hit the crossbar.Wolski went through the legs and scored. That's wolski for ya.

Ryan Rishaug of TSN asked both Battle of Alberta goalies what they would do if they saw someone coming at them with a move like Schremp pulled. These were their answers.

Dwayne Roloson (Edmonton Oilers): "Throw your stick at the guy's skates, try to take him out. Make sure he doesn't get to the net."

Jamie McLennan (Calgary Flames): "I don't know what I would have done... But if it worked, good for him, just as long as it's not on me."

All I say:

Speaking of potential shootout goal controversies, did anyone catch the highlights from Sunday's Ducks/Stars game? One of the Ducks shooters (can't remember who) pulled a spinorama on Turco and tried to backhand it in but Turco got his stick down in time. I thought it was illegal to stop/turn around on a shoot out (or at least a penalty shot) attempt?

That was Ryan Shannon.
I think that it is illegal to do that in a penalty shot but I'm not sure in a shootout.

You can't stop forward momentum. You can skate in backward for all it matters, you just have to keep moving forward.

Also, after reading through the rules quickly, Schremp's penalty shot would be disallowed, as the high-stick rules still apply in a penalty shot, though I read in the paper they're thinking about liberalising shootout rules to inspire more creativity.

Uh-oh. Maybe Vinny Damphousse will make a comeback to attempt a wrap around during a shoot-out. Lord knows, it was his go-to move during a game. And I'm pretty sure the success rate was below one percent...

Darren Dreger just did an Insider thing on Sportscenter regarding Shannon's attempt, and it's definitely a legal move since he kept his forward momentum going (like RedScull said). And Schremp's would have been legal too if he scored, just as long as his stick was below the crossbar.
