You take that logic and critical thinking elsewhere!

lol what? Steam is great, without them the PC gaming market would be weaker and harder to access.

I'm with you on this. There are a lot of people in denial that the world is changing. It doesn't take a genius to see the US is headed into fascism at an alarming rate. The NSA is bent on spying on citizens with no accountability and have the full backing of the US government.

No way do I want an "always on" camera and microphone in my living room, not controlled by me and connected to the internet. Could be it's not a problem now but the way the world is changing in a few short years it could be. Even worse if you forget it's there.

While I havn't confirmed it, but people on redflagdeals reported that EB games restocked the last of us around the country. Give your local EB store a call and see if they got new shipment.

Because it's ridiculous, unfounded, conspiracy theory bullplop. If you understand the purpose of the NSA and the method of info requests, you'd realize that the US government doesn't give two turds about Joe Blow playing xbox in his living room. This is for investigating suspected criminals/terrorists only, on a case by case basis, using information from not only Microsoft but nearly every media sharing company.

There's a difference between vigilance and paranoid delusion that should probably be explained a little clearer to gamers.

Yeah unfortunately if you're NOT a PC gamer it's awful. I play MAYBE 2 games on PC and I've been forced to go through Steam each time. Had to download this thing to my PC, had to make an account for something I'll never use and can't play my games without logging in. It's a huge piss off. I lost my password and was screwed for a little while. I can see why PC gamers like it, but I can't stand it. Just let me download my game and play it.

I also dislike DLC which is another major feature of Steam. Like I said in the original post you guys quoted, I am not a PC gamer.

People need to keep up on news.

It was confirmed a long time ago the Kinect doesn't have to be "always on" and can be turned off.

What do you have to hide? haha

Just seems really paranoid to me.

If the government really wants to watch me play video games, they can go ahead.

I'm not going to argue with folks or make this too political. The idea of having a camera and mic in my condo that I don't have control over weirds me out. And I am sure I am not alone. Even if it was never used for nefarious purposes, there is always the possibility that it could be.

I'll stick to my PC hooked up to my TV, and will get a Wii U for party gaming. If others want to get a XBone, cool, I hope you enjoy it.

Could they camera even be functional without the Xbox turned on?

Obviously the microphone has to be for the "Xbox on" command to work.

yes it can, just like if you have wifi and a laptop the camera on there can be accessed any time. I posted it earlier in here but a year ago a friend of mine sent me a link to 180,000+ unsecure webcams. they were everywhere in businesses, homes, surveilence all live easily accessed by simple hackers.

i can see how single dudes dont really care about it but as someone with kids i dont like the idea of some perv being able to access my kids via video anytime or even worse Govt agencies with their BS

When the xbox is "off" it's more of a standby mode. That is how it listens for the "xbox on" command. Since the mic and camera are both contained in the kinect unit, which must be plugged into the xbox in order to use the system, it would be a matter of changing a few lines of code during a system update to set the camera and/or mic to be on any/all of the time and save that data either to the xbox or the cloud.

Why not just unplug the damn thing? It takes 2 seconds to plug it back in and play

I assume that the privacy settings will further enable you to customize how skynet, er the kinect operates.

Not sure why you have a tough time believing it would happen when just last week Ed Snowden happened, proving that it can and does happen.

edit: anyway I realize this isn't the thread for that. Just another point to be raised against the xbone.

There's an easy solution here guys. If you are being monitored, go on vacation for a couple weeks, leave a full sized picture of a man doing that goatse thing in front of the camera's view, and I guarantee you they won't watch your place any longer when you get back.
