Thanks for the article. Much appreciated.

Comment: In a draft that has 4 (or perhaps 5) top players and the Preds picking 4th, I don't think it is accurate to list Lindholm and Monahan as preferences #2 and #3. I understand you are trying to make the point that the Preds need a top center but David Poile is an absolute BPA guy and it would be hugely shocking that in the scenario where Barkov is gone that either of those are judged BPA by the Preds.

Lindholm and Monahan (who I would argue is not generally viewed as equal to Lindholm are highly unlikely to be picked over Jones/Drouin/MacK/Barkov - one of which WILL be available at #4- and probably not even over Nichushkin.

Minor notes:

Ryan Ellis is missing from our list of currentD-men and under no circumstances is Hal Gill to be listed in our second pairing... ever.

The forwards are correct but misleading to have Smith and Spaling listed on a 5th line behind Beck, Halischuk and Forsberg... Clune.... Yip (and Kevin Henderson, who is a depth/injury callup at best, really should not be on the list).

BD, and that's why I don't put a lot of credence to the article. If the person doesn't even know the depth chart, how accurate is their report going to be.

Good article for the most part.

I agree with what braindead said above. I also thought it was kind of odd the way you worded how the hole Suter's departure left isn't likely to be replaced by one player. I pictured a top pairing of three defensemen

I disagree, though. I think Josi will do a fine job replacing Suter, even if he never becomes quite the defensive defenseman that Suter is. Josi and Weber did a fine job complementing one another.

The problem is the #4 defender spot, which was a revolving door of sorts last year. #3 is solidified with Klein. We have plenty of third pairing defenders. We need that #4.

Josi could falter, but at the moment I think we're fine with the top pairing.

I have to agree.

Josi did a fine job replacing Suter btw.

The only thing that makes me giddy about that article is the possibility of acquiring a player than dons an umlaut in their name...

Appreciate all the comments, folks.

I normally try and address each and every comment (in this case I'd run the comments thought the author, E-Mac [I posted on his behalf on THW]), but unfortunately my community was one of those first affect in Calgary (Alberta) with the flooding...

Luckily, after 3 days no power and totally disconnected (internet, phones, TV, etc.) we're (upper part of my neighbourhood) semi back to normal. My house escaped unscathed but many neighbours were not so lucky.

This couldn't have come at a worst time for hockey coverage, given my passion for the draft, but what can ya do.

Like the Guess Who once said: "Cause it's the new Mother Nature taking over..."

We just have to be resilient and come back better and stronger than ever.

I hope everything works out for you and those close to you, Chris. We had a flood here in 2010. It hits home for a lot of us. Stay safe, and don't worry with hockey for now. There are more important things going on.

I did enjoy your article.

I clicked on a suggested link at the end of the article and it was a mock draft. It must be a week or so old but with Colorado coming out and saying they won't draft Jones(possible smoke screen), does that change our chances of landing Barkov? If Colorado drafts Mackinnon, wouldn't Tampa Bay
Come in and take Barkov?

If its down to drafting Seth Jones or Nicushkin(we tend to shy away from Russian players, damn that Alexander Radulov)...who do we take?

Lastly, we Nashvillians know all too well about flooding. Stay strong my friend. You'll persevere through this.

Still hoping Drouin falls to #4. Tampa Bay already has a young sniper in Stamkos and with Lecaviller on the way out maybe they'll be looking for more of a playmaker type.

Preds just got Barkov in the nhl network mock draft.... so that settles that.

By the way, Nichushkin just went 5th and they compared him to.... Malkin. Can we start that firestorm once more for old time sake?

For me, it's the simple fact that the talent available (top 8, maybe even deeper) at say 5 through 8 that I have listed is not below Valeri enough to take him and the potential headaches down the road. I like him. A lot. Malkin - I do not think he is. RIck Nash lite, maybe.
