Ideal is Ryan McDonagh.

I would do
McDonagh + Sam Noreau for the 1st overall + Duncan Siemens.
I would add a conditional 1st round 2018 draft pick so 5 years from now, if Noreau did not work out, for any reason other than he turned into damaged goods on your watch, I would give you Rangers 2018 first for Noreau back. [So you get free look at Noreau for 5 years (he is 2ish years away so that is 3ish years est. NHL service on ELC contract), only requirements are he is not LTIR and you didn't already trade him to 3rd party, i.e., he is still Avs property.]

McD is proven franchise D, emphasis on D skill + techniques.

Rangers draft McKinnon

This is actually a terrible, terrible deal.

The Avs wouldn't move the 1st overall for McDonagh along. Nevermind adding in a very good Defensive prospect in Siemens(Who has McDonagh upside himself).

Terrible.

Shocking bernmeister with another proposal that robs a team for his Rangers.

They aren't moving Josi.

I still am curious if they'd be interested in 4th + Watson + Ekholm though.

Some people still think the Avs are their teams' player cow to milk.
If you didn't get the memo:
Joe Sakic & Patrick Roy are there now. Sherman is basically the coffee supplier.
So either do fair or at least reasonable offers or don't do any at all.

Doubt the Avs accept, but just throwing this out there.

Why would we trade a pick where we would get 7 years of a young star for a rental?

Yeah...no

the Avs are shopping fora 2nd rounder.
the top 3 prospects are so close in worth that any of the 3 is a TOP pick. If the Avs can force Florida or Tampa to offer a 2nd rounder just to bump up to 1st pick it might be a good deal for the AVS.

Terrible.
Surprised you wouldn't do it for McD alone.
Not sure if that is how much you overvalue the 1st or under value McD.

And obviously, I consider Siemens to have upside, why I insisted he was part of the package. But I think Doug Hamilton, not too shabby, is fairer comparison than McD.

McD is a TOP proven LD.
Esp. if you are emphasizing actual D (instead of Letang who is comparable value, but really an elite skater playing D and not a great D)

has the first overall pick ever been traded right before the draft?

Shocking that you don't consider a pre-elite level, top of the line lefty D, who is proven and established, to be worth a #1.

I mean, if you could be SURE McKinnon will be another Lemieux or Stamkos, ok.

At this point, one can only HOPE he turns into Tavares.
He may, of course, actually fall short or match, or exceed Tavares.

But at this point.....

so yeah, you shock me man.

Very much doubt you'll see Colorado move out of the top 4 picks.

Their glaring need is a defenseman who can actually play defense on the top 2 pairings.

What about this:

To Colorado:
7th Overall
Paajarvi
Musil
Gernat
Belov
Yakupov

To Edmonton:
1st Overall (again lol)
Siemens

This way when Colorado picks at 7, they still have one of the following 4 players to pick:
Nurse (could replace Siemens as a defensive prospect)
Nichushkin (fast PWF)
Monahan (TWF with scoring and playmaking ability)
Lindholm (TWF with offensive upside)

Our main needs are a young defenseman to play on the left side of the top pairing and another dynamic winger. But I could see the Avs moving down for just a good piece or two as long as they stay in the top 4.

Your choice of Blum/Ellis/Ekholm + 4th overall + young roster forward?

If that's too little I'd easily pony up our 1st next year.

You don't know hockey Jack!

Hey lets give Colorado the first overall pick from last year and this years 7th along with Edmontons second line LW, a couple D prospects, and a fellow we just signed from the KHL for this years first and Siemens....

Damn shiny toy syndrome.
