Szplug! I didn't even know about any flooding in Calgary until three posters ago. That first picture is outrageous! Nothing like that ever happened when I was there.

From what I am gathering, this flood is gonna be way worse than the 2005 flood you guys had. BE PREPARED! I wish I could come down and help.

The 2005 flood destroyed my basement. Seriously hoping I don't have to go through that **** again.

Those are all SW communities, right? I know Mission, Elbow Park, and Stanley Park are because they are right near the river. That's scary, those communities are about 10 minutes from where I live. Seriously wishing best of luck to those living in those evacuated areas.

Im not 100% sure unfortunately, here is the cities flood-map though:

http://www.calgary.ca/PDA/DBA/Pages/...inge-Maps.aspx

From everything I have heard this could be much worse than 2005, if I was you I would move whatever valuables I could upstairs.

If anyone in the SE, or anywhere in the city for that matter needs to evacuate and needs somewhere to stay, shoot me a PM.

Thanks guys. The ironic thing is, the city has been working down in my community for the last month or so installing pipes into the ground to prepare for this. I don't really know where they are in their progress but I sure hope it's sufficient enough haha.

Just now getting some updates on the roads:

Ramp from westbound Glenmore to both north and southbound Deerfoot will be closed by rush hour.

The two eastbound lanes on Memorial between 5A Street and Centre St NW will be closed.

So... if any of you guys need to go that way, maybe leave work/whatever a bit early?

One quick reminder: If you're evacuating TAKE YOUR PETS!

And do stay safe. Having grown up by a majour river (St. John) I know first hand that we can never underestimate the power or a river that's in this kind of flood stage. If you are told to evacuate then leave.

I have a friend in Calgary who went to work but his house was evacuated, so his cat/dog/whatever pet he has is stuck.

Best thing to do is phone the humane society and see what they have to say. They're usually really on the ball in these situations.

P.S. People are being told to leave work if their home is under an evacuation order. People living in these areas should head home ASAP.

Right on the river myself, but pretty high up, I'm completely blown away with this whole situation, caught me completely off guard. My brother is on the river too and was evacuated.

I hear there are now 12 Calgary communities being evacuated. 7 have been already mentioned - Which are the 5 more recent ones announced? Is Parkdale one of them?

Per CBC News and Cawz on the Oilers Forum:

From CBC - The City of Calgary has issued mandatory evacuation orders for 14 communities after massive flooding in the city and across southern Alberta. The city says up to 100,000 people could be affected by evacuations.

The communities of Mission, Elbow Park, Stanley Park, Roxboro, Rideau, Discovery Ridge, Victoria Park, Erlton, Cliff Bungalow, Sunnyside, Bowness and parts of Inglewood have been or are being evacuated.

Police say the rest of Inglewood, Eau Claire, Chinatown, Downtown and the East Village, Bridgeland, Deer Run and Riverbend are next on the list.
