What exactly does Messier currently do for the organization?

In looking at one of the Rangers sites today I was reminded that connecting with prospects is something Adam Graves does. I mentioned in an earlier post that some one aspiring to be a coach should at least take an interest in the prospects. Attend some games. Do some one on one to get to know the kids who may play for the Rangers some day.

While I hate the idea of either one, I'd choose Graves over Messier if I had to choose one.

I'd have to agree. Mess seems to have acquired a sense of entitlement. While no one would argue his status as an icon, it does not entitle him to a coaching job with no experience. He needs to at least have some so he can see how his knowledge of the game translates into that position and responsibility.

In regards to Messier. I think this will be a wakeup call for him. He really shouldn't be so disapointed in the direction Sather went in. Now is not the time for Messier to be coaching the Rangers. Messier may not reliaze it, but Sather did him a HUGE favor by not hireing him to coach this team.
Seems to be quite a pattern developing within the organization.

While I do love the warrior mentality of playing through pain and minor injuries, having guys out there with concussions or busted up shoulders that will get worse with additional contact is a horrible, horrible organizational decision.

Seems to be a real disconnect between the doctors/trainers and the coaching staff on the team. It was obvious last year when Torts was unaware of how badly injured Gaborik was with his shoulder...now we have Nash running around out there with a concussion (not to mention Staal and the is he ok or not? diagnosis with the doctors).

This is the same organization that let Staal play half the season + 5 playoff games with a concussion, which got so bad that he wasn't able to play for half the next season.

Credit to Nash for not looking absolutely terrible out there, but all things considered, he should have been resting at home.

Maybe he actually felt better?

Not all concussions are these month long affairs. Most have the symptoms pass within days or a week.

Well that ended up working well. His symptoms didn't pass. Otherwise we would have seen him before the WC.

You mean like his 2nd stint with the Rangers when he felt he was entitled to play 20 minutes a game at the ages of 39-43 and we gave it to him? Don't get me started on Messier!

Sense? Acquired? Mess IS entitled to ANY job in this organization. Without him Rangers would have lost the last little grain of respect they still have. The reason why is he held back is obvious. Should he be given serious responsibilities and should either succeed or just should not fail, next he would have taken over. That was not in Slats plans. That is why he was feeding Mess with promises that made Captain to think he could get on top without hard work necessary for retiree to re-establish himself. Now Slats probably told him that he wanted him to get a job but Dolan wouldn't let him or something like that. So this is a moment for Mess to re-think his refusal to take job in EDM.
What Mess is a acquired is his laziness. We know that from his last few seasons in Blue

Just because someone is a good player doesn't mean they'd make a good executive. Any feelings of entitlement in this organization should be gone for them to optimize the on-ice product. Mess should stick to what he was doing before. He can feel important, do the little things and won't hurt the organization.

These are exactly Sather's talking points. I'd feel disgusted in Mess shoes right now.

They're not talking points. They are the truth. Why the hell should Messier be given free reign to do whatever the hell he wants in our organization?

Because this is what Sather does. Mess is supposed to learn from him in his current role.
Look, Mess nows very well how olde boys club operates in Edmonton. Just don't be silly telling "This is NY". Lck of experience is a PP reason for not giving a job, not the real one.
