Bieksa and Coburn are arguable.. Kassian and Laughton as well... Even Voracek and Edler.... I just fail to see how Hansen is = to Read. Read is just a better player.

Maybe you're right. A winger with only one year of 1st line production is certainly more valuable than an established top pairing(borderline #1) dman.

They're all pretty even comparisons, even Read and Hansen. Read is a bit better offensively by virtue of his superior PP acumen, but Hansen outscores him at even strength and he's bigger, faster, more physical and better defensively than Read.

Read is an good offensive player who still has an above average all around game, while Hansen is a good all around player who has an above average offensive game.

Not interested in Kassian or Bieksa. At all. Edler is really the only payer from Vancouver I could see the Flyers being interested in.

Which explains why he's seemingly involved in every single Canucks proposal I've seen in the past 6 months. Those #1 defenseman are so expendable.

The only reason you've seen that is because

1) He had an off year

and, most importantly,

2) He's the only player on the Canucks that could get back some value who doesn't have an NTC (he does, but it doesn't kick in until July 1).

We also have two other LH defenceman in Hamhuis and Garrison so that particular position is one of strength.

Hence the multiple trade proposals. It isn't a reflection of his abilities when he's on his game. It's due to circumstance and a desire for a large shakeup.

I understand that, but all I'm saying is that he is not a #1 defenseman. If he were, your fan base would not be entertaining the idea of trading him, despite the realities you just stated, because #1 defensemen are invaluable in this league and simply aren't traded. You build your team around them, not ship them off because your team needs a shakeup.

If Edler is so good, why are all the Vancouver fans I can see on here proposing trading him away?

He's easily a #1 defenceman. In 2012 he was 7th in points among defenceman (tied with Weber) and 24th in TOI. I would rank him in the top 15 defenceman in the NHL, which most definitely makes him a #1 Dman. Not a franchise player, but still a very good player.

Our fanbase is trading him, because of the realities I've stated. You're right that they are invaluable and simply not traded, which is why one of the insiders on our board has explicitly stated that Gillis has been very clear that Edler will never be moved.

I can't believe that the Flyer fans haven't been nastier. One of the more horrible proposals on HFBoards - from an impartial fan who tends to think that Philly fans overvalue their players in this forum. Apparently Flyer fans are much more reasonable than I've given them credit for 'cause this proposal shoulda been sharted all over and left to rot in Stanley Park.

Luongo + Edler + Bieksa (from 3 years ago when was our "escape goat"), Halak, Ryder + 2nd

For

Couturier and Giroux.

Sean Couturier. The "3rd Line Center at best" that every team seems to want......

Vancouver has Kellan Lain whos max potential is 3rd line center... Donno why no one wants him...

Couts ceiling is a dependable, two way center. Think Mike Fisher, John Madden etc. A 1b/2 C. Just my 2 cents though.

It's a trade forum and he's the only D without an NTC.

Ive got him pegged as Kesler/Richards caliber.

Ideally a #2, but can defs. be a #1 on a lot of teams.
