They're very different types of defensemen, so projecting "higher" is moot. Harrington's a defense-first type, Dumoulin and Maatta are two-way types, and Pouliot's a dynamic offensive type.

In spite of our recent inability to score against Boston, shutdown defense is our greatest need on the blueline. Harrington has been the best shutdown prospect in junior the past couple years, and would make the perfect complement to Letang if he keeps progressing as well as he has to this point.

That said, I'd prefer to hang onto all of them unless absolutely blown away.

I wonder if it might be worth it to pursue a smaller deal centered around him instead? Hmmm....

Jeffrey isn't an upgrade over Sobotka, there is no point in trading for him.

No prob. It can be hard to gauge the value of proposals if you don't follow prospects rigorously.

Agree with this.

A big no for me.

Yeah, you've got a great crop of D prospects in PIT - I really hope they all see significant NHL time in the near future. I watched Harrington and Maatta in last year's Memorial Cup, and Pouliot and Maatta in this year's Memorial Cup, but I'll admit I've never seen Dumoulin at all.

Harrington is 3rd behind Maata and Pouliot. May actually be ranked higher than Despres.

He didnt get it because hes not good enough. This is a bad trade for STL, only upside i see for this is that it would give Pieterangelo a defensive responsible LH partner.

You've seen Dumoulin about as much as I have, haha. A couple reg season AHL games early and then the streams dried up.

In essence you want the Blues to trade a goal scorer (plus Halak) for future depth.
Depth...the strength the Blues are always listed at that has won them lo these many, might Stanley Cups.

Sounds good. Sign me up.
As a Penguin fan, I couldn't argue at all with anything that was said except one major issue?

Scott Harrington will not be
A #3-4 left defenseman

Since Morrow was traded and Letang could possibility be moved.

Harrington and Maatta were officially announced to be untouchables
Along with Bennett and Despres

Pretty much this. As much as I'd personally pay to see Fleury gone, we can't afford to deal another first rounder and Harrington is quite important for the future blueline. I'd probably counter with Kunitz and Fleury for Halak and Stewart.

It probably depends on what happens with Letang. Their importance and where to slot them may change.

I apologize if there has been enough "Stewart to the Pens" proposals already, but I thought I would try one that didn't involve asking for Bennett or Despres.

PIT seems to have Centers and D prospects (which STL needs), and STL has wingers (which PIT needs). Too many Blues fans get caught up trying to only deal Stewie for the "mythical #1C", whereas if a deal like this went down, that would give STL two 1sts to possibly use in a separate deal to land that 1C. At least, that was my thought...
If I am the Pens, I turn this down in a heartbeat. Fleury, despite his postseason problems the last 2 years is still a very good goaltender. The difference between him and Halak is not that big...Halak would not do much better playing in the Pens system ( yes, I think Halak is a product of the Blues D and system ) Stewart is nice, but I am not giving up a solid D prospect who is a future second pairing defensemen, a decent 3rd line winger and a 1st round pick for him.

Love Stewart and I think he'd be a great fit for the Pens but no for that package. Also as much as I don't have faith in Fleury I wouldn't have any for Halak either. Besides those 2 rounds of greatness with the Habs years ago he's been injured and very shaky since

Not true, stats from 11-12:

Halak: 26-12-7; 1.97 GAA; .926 SV%; 6 SHO
