I love the GLI--it's a great holiday tournament matching up some pretty decent teams, including two bitter in-state rivals. But as has been the case in recent years, some teams will be coming in shorthanded due to participation in the World Junior Championships.
Michigan (playing Boston College Saturday at 2:30pm ET) loses starting goaltender Al Montoya and defenseman Matt Hunwick (United States), along with forward Jeff Tambellini (Canada).
Michigan State (playing Michigan Tech at 6pm ET Saturday) loses starting goaltender Dominic Vicari (backing up Al Montoya), as well as forward David Booth and defenseman Corey Potter.
Should still be some great games over the weekend!
Congrats to Boston College on winning the Great Lakes Invitational this past weekend, knocking off both Michigan (4-1 on Saturday) and Michigan State (4-3 on Sunday in the Championship Game). Michigan beat Michigan Tech 6-2 on Sunday in the Consolation Game. I'd give more of a report, but didn't catch a large portion of the games. Sorry!
