Moving on up! Leafs-Isles

Realistically, what would it take for the Leafs to move up from 21st to 15th overall?

And I would make that offer to San Jose first for 20th and 50th

Last year Buffalo moved up from 21 to 14 for their 2nd round pick #42.

You 2nd round pick may be good enough to move from 21 to 15...but Isles likely ask for something more.

Given your pick is in the 50s a better shot would be to maybe get to 17 with the 2nd round pick.

If that were the price I'd actually look to moving down

Probably another trade for comparison sake would be LA trading 19th and 59th for 15th in 2010

it's been discussed ad nauseam that a 2nd would probably get it done/is fair value.

In this draft, unless you have a specific player you're absolutely set on and wanna make 100% sure no one else gets them, jumping 6 or so spots in the 1st by giving up your 2nd rounder doesn't make a lot of sense for any of the teams from the mid-1st on...the talent from 15 or so to around 50 or so is very interchangeable...so no to #25 & #36 for #15...

I think by about 20 the draft will start becoming more hit and miss. Sure their will be better players picked after 20 then before but their will also be more marginal players and duds

@25 you basically are looking at drafting really good defensive players with limited upside offensively, guys projected to be 3rd liners or guys who are swing for the fences and hope for the best picks(theat will either look like really great picks or a waste of a pick)

I wouldn't go that far. I would say 25 - 40 will be close in talent level. Should be a lot of very good players left when the Leafs pick a 21.

The Leafs and Islanders do have a history of trading draft picks. Remember in 2008 Toronto moved up from 7th overall to 5th overall and selected Luke Schenn. There was also a few extra picks the Leafs sent them that the Islanders could have used in 2008 or 2009 since they had that option.

I don't know; I've seen quite a few mock drafts where guys like Zykov, Rychel, Erne, Morin, Hagg, and Gauthier go in the teens and others where a few of them are still there for round 2 while others like Dauphin, Poirier, McCoshen, and Bailey, who are mostly slotted in the 2nd, end up going in the late teens/early twenties...it's that close and deep a draft...

we'd obviously only do this if horvat was available, he should go between 13-15. if someone like rychel was still around we could always get a late 1st rounder/early 2nd for diaz. omfg i cant wait for draft day

Islanders have a lot of great prospects. No point in drafting a 'lesser' prospect. If our cupboard were bare, sure. But it's not.

I guess there is a difference in opinion, but every player you listed initially I see going in the first round, and likely the top 25.

No thanks. We need as many good prospects as we can get.

I agree.... From about 20-40 you have players that can go anywhere.

The issue is still who will and who won't succeed and that is the uncertainty here. In past draft history after pick 20 the players drafted are so hit and miss. Could this year be different...it's possible. Too early to tell.

From 25 on you may be able to get top6/top 4 player. Top 4 is far more likely than a top 6.
